The moon and the stars were the only forms of light that could guide the she-wolf through the darkness of the night. Her body was seated close to the dazzling emerald falls, the crashing water the only sound really audible in the silent air; there was no howling of other wolves, no other creatures scurrying around … there was just her, or so it would seem. Her eyes were fixated on her own reflection, taking in her smooth fur and deep eyes, her senses so intently focused that it was as if the water was actually another creature to her! But really, she was just trying to clear up her thoughts and gather them together, determined to do one thing on such a night. Anything, really.
What to do, what to do; the famous catchphrase of those wickedly sly characters, wanting to do nothing but cause mischief. But this just wasn’t the case with Cheyenne; anyone could tell that she wasn't devious at all; all she wanted to do right now was occupy her time, seeing as how she’d failed to get to sleep that night. The water rippled out in the distance and small waves crashed against the shoreline, a quiet, melodic hum of a tune starting to buzz from Cheyenne's throat, deciding to entertain herself until finding another wolf to do it for her instead. A light mist had started to roll around her, embracing Cheyenne in a sweet, soothing blanket. It was funny how the simplest things could calm people sometimes, and the moment the air in front of her eyes hazed over with the mist, she felt a sudden peacefulness to her, like nothing could ruin this moment.
If only that were true, though; if you bothered to ask her such a question, she’d give you a list of the endless possibilities to do just that, and for good reason. Arrogant wolves weren’t uncommon, and Cheyenne often had the terrible luck to come across them more often then not, so she’s slowly learned over time to deal with such unwanted company. But maybe here it was different? She wasn't familiar with this place yet, and was still learning its ways and landscapes; it was very beautiful though, in many aspects, and she was already enjoying it. Though now that Cheyenne’s mind was alive and bubbling with thoughts, the peaceful moment had ended; looks like she had been the destroyer of her own happiness. How ironic.
A loud sigh erupted from her lips, her shoulders rolling back as she pulled herself to her feet, starting to wander away from the falls, the small pebbles decorating the shore separating under her weight and pushing away from one another. The hum continued to rise from her throat, a distant look of happiness lingering in the depths of her pure, brown eyes. Maybe she didn’t need anyone else; maybe she was fine spending the night alone and having herself as her one and only company. She debated with this, the humming stopping as her tongue rolled around inside her mouth, body movements pausing only momentarily. No, she couldn’t live like that, she couldn’t live in a lonely world of solitude; she was a social creature, and relied on others to keep her sane. We didn’t want that small anxiety problem to come into play, did we? Her pace started up again along with the pleasant humming, doing her best to push all of her unwanted thoughts into the back of her head. To anyone and everyone who’d see her right and there, she’d look as simple as can be; nothing but a single she-wolf, cherishing the darkness with a midnight stroll under the stars and the moon.

It was a pleasant night, as nights went, though pleasant was always a relative term. The male's paws pressed into the ground as his muscles flexed, moving him forward and up, finding his way towards the sound of rushing water. He wasn't excited by the prospect; he was simply bored. Perhaps some lost soul would find its way to him tonight; perhaps he could amuse himself for a while. Perhaps he was destined for loneliness. Frankly, none of it mattered much to him. It would be unfortunate to wind up alone, without anyone to toy with, particularly so since he wanted to send this world to hell before he left it; Tok really wasn't a friendly sort.
His ears were perked, though more for the sake of keeping him from accidentally running into anybody than to show any feeling. Tok simply did not have feelings; anything that might prove this wrong was either an act or a misinterpretation of his body language. His eyes scanned the area in front of him, helping him pick his way along the path to the falls. Their pinkish color wasn't quite so visible in the weak light, and while he didn't exactly blend in, his colors didn't stand out too harshly in the dark. Really, though, Tok didn't care; he was looking for someone to pass the time with, so why would he want to blend in?
The rush of the falls would have been calming, had he been worried about the dark, and the smell of water overpowered everything else. However, he could feel another presence nearby. His power let him hear others' minds, but when the connection was so weak that he couldn't truly hear their words, it really was more of a feeling; this feeling, however, was almost as physical as everything else he felt. It was almost a tickle in his head, but there really was no good way to describe it accurately. Still, there was someone out there, and he followed that tenuous connection in an effort to find the source. Focusing on the feeling helped him hear better, enough that he caught the tail end of whatever the stranger had been thinking. The voice in his mind was female and his teeth slowly revealed themselves as he gave a cruel smirk. Tonight had just gotten interesting.
Moving closer, he stopped just as he caught sight of the femme, watching her for a moment before he decided that things needed to move forward and stepped on a twig. It was quite intentional, of course; the sound nothing more than a minim in the night. Yet, he was sure she would hear it. "Sorry to interrupt your stroll, miss. I guess I got a bit turned around..." And there it was, he had spoken. It was all sheepish looks and quiet charm and that cautiously wagging tail now, no traces of the cold, calculating creature he truly was. His ears tilted back at first, but then swiveled to face her, cautious and shy as this role demanded. He relaxed a little, though he still looked quite embarrassed to have made such a silly mistake; hopefully she would fall for it.

The melodic hum continued to come from her, the sound so simple and yet quite unique. Her long tail moved in sync with her rocking hips, and her chocolate eyes slowly moved around the area, trying to find anything to pass the night with. She was surprised she wasn’t away sleeping, honestly, and this was only happening because of her lack of knowledge on the place. She was quite new to these lands, and she couldn’t rest easy without knowing a little more about it.
Her thoughts were interrupted by the sound of another, and she stopped dead in her tracks, body pausing as her ears flickering before turning to face the direction of the snapping twig. A male stood in her wake, and a brow rose in question before he started to speak. So he was apologizing, huh? She was quite pleased that another had come across her, but she wouldn’t let much happiness show on her face. However, a small smile came across her muzzle, dainty and sweet in appearance, and she gave a quick nod of her head in acknowledgment. "It’s no trouble, really." She told him honestly, muscles twitching as she let her eyes wander and observe him.
He was quite large, which came to no surprise, with a coat that could easily camouflage in certain areas; interesting, her own pelt was a mixture of many colors, and though she could hunt just fine, she wouldn’t be able to hide as good as he. She took that thought back when she saw his eyes though; those must be hard to live with. Such a vibrant shade of pink, Cheyenne hadn’t seen anything like it. It almost startled her, but she was able to keep her cool will her mind rambled to this and that. Overall, one could describe him as average, but Cheyenne sensed that there something different about him. Something she just couldn’t put her finger on. He looked embarrassed though, so she considered that maybe that was it; oh well, that answer would do for now, at least.
Her tongue flickered from her jaws to slip and lick around her chops, eyes catching his momentarily, before she let them trail away to the night above them. The stars were bright and vibrant against the dark shade of the sky, twinkling like a thousand tiny diamonds surrounded them. She had always enjoyed the night, the very feel of it, and yet this still wasn’t enough to have her do these kinds of things more often. She just found it hard to stay up during the night, but would if she felt like it. Odd, yes … but understandable.
Slowly, after the wheels in her head turned and silence crept into the space between them, Cheyenne let her body relax before trying to start something. "What brings you out to the falls at this hour?" She asked, curiosity tainting her voice as she watched him, waiting for the answer that was soon to come. It was a simple question that had no harm in being answered, and she knew quite well that there was a possibility that he’d want to know the same in return. It was understandable, and she was more then happy to give him the answer; it wasn’t like she was sneaking around, coming up with some diabolical plan. She was just wasting the night away and leaning about the land!
Her rump soon fell to the ground, the distant sound of the falls still echoing around them. Her tail swooped over the ground, stirring up dirt as it went, to curl daintily around her backside, flickering as her paws and she got herself comfortable. Shoulders rolled back, the rather petite femme watching the other carefully. She was smaller then most in caparison to everyone, but she didn’t let her size make a name for herself; her personality did that for her. This side of her could come through if she ended up liking this brute, and she still didn’t know much about him.
She’s just have to wait and see.

She was a rather alluring sight, wasn't she? Rocking along to the music she made, the female certainly made for an interesting distraction from his previous boredom. It wasn't perfect, of course, since he wasn't actually gaining much besides her company at the moment, but perhaps later... The male suppressed a smirk. Later, perhaps she could be a bit more entertaining. Her smile when she finally noticed her was a good sign; she wasn't terribly wary, then. This might just be fun, after all.
Her voice was rather pleasant to listen to, and he gave a relieved smile, "If you're sure..." Oh, he was good. He even managed to put in just the right amount of hesitance to make her think he wasn't entirely sure he was welcome to stay. It wasn't as if he planned to leave anyway; he'd just be bored again. Her thoughts were amusing enough; she was glad she had company, she was interested in his eyes, she was impressed by his coat, and she thought of him as average. Oh, how wrong the little creature was! She thought he was different somehow, and that was true, but he was quite content to let her believe that it was simply his embarrassment that caused that thought. When she looked at him, he gave her a smile, sweet and relieved and interested, all at once. Somehow, it didn't seem hard to get his hooks into her.
He couldn't say that her thoughts on the stars weren't mildly interesting, though that was more because they were so childish to him. Her question caught him slightly off-guard, but he merely shrugged and smiled, "I couldn't sleep, so I figured I might as well explore. How about you?" He knew her answer, of course, but it only made his more convincing. She would look for a connection, more likely than not; others tended to grasp at commonalities like that, though their reasoning was lost on him. Why bother? Tok really wasn't impressed so far; why would he be? She hadn't done anything impressive and he hadn't prodded her to, so his interest in her was more physical at the moment than anything else. Though he couldn't breed her, at least right now, he certainly didn't mind looking; barring some profound shift in their conversation, that was about the only thing she was good for in his mind. He was discreet, of course, but that didn't mean he didn't look.
When she sat, Tok chuckled, "Tired?" It was playful, teasing, friendly. He was trying to put her at ease, and since she had felt comfortable enough to sit, he took it as a good sign. He moved a bit forward and lay down, still remaining a polite distance away from her; the brute didn't mind letting her feel dominant or whatever, since his advantage was in knowing what went through that pretty little head of hers. The falls would have provided a relaxing background for their little chat, but somehow the sound grated against his nerves. Still, he kept his happy face and paid appropriate attention to the little femme in front of him; no sense dropping the act before he'd gotten something from her.

Her soft, chocolate eyes watched him lightly, showing not too much emotion now except for that perfectly crafted, completely darling smile. She was interested in him, because something still seemed off. It’s just like she had an itch, one that she couldn’t scratch and would never cease to exist until she was proven an answer, one that was true and undeniably honest. What were the chances of her getting it though? She wasn’t pushy or overly nosey, and she was much too nice and polite to really get anything against someone else’s pull. She was but a puppet to most others, even if she was independent when she really needed to be.
His voice came to her, laced with innocent hesitance that seeded in like venom. She was completely oblivious to anything going on around her; she saw him as innocent, a simple fellow like herself, without much purpose but wanting some decent company in the heart of the night. Large eyes lingered away for a moment, giving him another genuine nod, assuring him this was all quite alright with her. Lovely body twitched as a strong breeze rushed against them, howling through the trees and causing her colorful fur to ruffle. She hated when that happened, and suppressed a sheepish look to appear on her muzzle. Oh no, she wouldn’t want that; first impressions were everything, and she wanted hers to be a good one on this fellow.
She noticed his smile, and it seemed to calm her slight nerves of this going terribly, and her features seemed to relax further. Shoulders rolled back, claws poking from their sockets to gently sink into the ground under her. It was something to do to pass the time – could you really blame her? – and she was waiting for an answer. When she got it however, a short look of surprise crossed her face, before the smile returned, vocals on the brink of letting loose a chuckle.
"What a coincidence,“ She mused casually, sweeping her tender gaze back to his face, tail flickering around the ground contently. She let those few words register momentarily, and when her voice returned it was filled with the same sweet tone, laced with dainty playfulness. "Would you believe me if I said I was out for the same reason?“ It was true, after all; her lack of sleep had lured her away to explore the land, having nothing better to do and with no hopes of catching a Z that night. It was probably a common answer, but she explained it to him with enthusiasm, her charismatic nature seeming to roll off of her in waves.
When he spoke again she grinned, giving a short shake of her head in appose to the nod of earlier on. "Tiered? Never; if I was tiered, I’m sure I’d be off asleep; wouldn’t you?” She said teasingly, though it remained friendly; she was good at this, she had always been a good socializer, and she was hoping for a positive reaction from the brute. If not … well, she’d be given a sharp jab to her ego then. She had always been happy with her easy friendliness to others, and everyone else usually enjoyed how easy she was to talk to, especially when she hardly got angry or annoying.
Wasn’t she just darling?

To say that he wasn't the slightest bit amused by her simple behavior would have been a lie. To say that he was more than the slightest bit amused would also have been a lie. Tok's mask never slipped for an instant as he watched his words take hold, trapping the little dear in a web far too well crafted for her to truly come out unscathed. She had had her chance to escape and it had fled like she probably should have. That just wouldn't have been any fun for him.
"Your fur looks lovely this evening," he mentioned almost shyly, as if he were actually afraid of what she thought of his compliment. She didn't like it when the breeze teased through its strands? If he praised it, she would likely be flattered; either that or she would tell him why she thought otherwise. Either way, something like that would serve the same purpose; he would have something to talk about. Her reaction to his comment brought an astonished, almost excited look to his face, and his tail went tick-tock, as if that had been how he'd gotten his name. "Why wouldn't I believe you? Apparently it's quite common. Every wolf I've met tonight has said the same thing." His charming grin said he was joking, and he expertly kept the distain from his voice. Such a gullible little chit, wasn't she? Oh, well, he couldn't ever really expect anyone to measure up to his standards when it came to interaction.
Her next response made him snort, his laughter rich as he looked up at her and chuckled, "I can't sleep even when I am tired, most nights. Still, I suppose you do have a point..." he let his words trail off, giving her a playful smile. He was teasing her, then; it was only fair, since she had started this particular game. It wasn't as if he had better things to do at that moment, since it would be another day or so before he could sleep, and he was still perfectly willing to be entertained. If nothing else, cultivating this friendship would likely lead to fun later on; most females usually led to some sort of drama or other. Whether one was there to witness it or not usually depended on whether one had the patience to wait out the long, boring spell beforehand. Females were so high-maintenance. You had to talk to them, and spend time with them, and, if you were really unlucky, listen to all of their stupid, pathetic problems. If the inane rambling weren't enough, their emotions would probably drive him to damaging someone one of these days. Still, sex was always a good incentive, though pups were likely an unfortunate consequence of that act. It didn't matter much to him, though; it was plenty easy for Tok to simply walk away. It was easy to leave, since he didn't give a damn.
