The small white wolf was curled into a ball beside a slowly budding flower bush, her bi-coloured eyes were shut, and her mouth was hanging slightly ajar as her breath came out of her in even gusts. The side of her head was laid against the ground, and she was enjoying the heat she was absorbing in her ivory pelt. Her chest rose and fell in even successions, and against it a tiny brown shape stirred. The small she-wolf didn't move after the disturbance, but instead seemed to snuggle herself in closer to the small creature who was also rolled up into a snug little ball beside her. She was only half aware of her surroundings, trusting the little weasel like creature resting beside her to notify her if there was anyone or anything coming. A yawn cracked at her muzzle, her pink tongue rolling against the roof of her mouth as a small wheezy sound escaped her maw.
Her eyes fluttered open sleepily, ears twitching lightly as if vaguely interested in what was going on around her. She had napped long enough, it was time for a drink, and maybe a meal. Her stomach twisted and contorted with the thought of food, her underweight frame much more prominent now that the seasons had changed and it was getting warmer. Her winter coat had thinned out and dispersed, the illusion of an average weight now long gone. She sighed lightly to herself, lifting her head from the ground with some effort. Blinking rapidly a few times to focus her vision, Solace turned her head toward the tiny creature sleeping against her chest. A small smile tugged at her muzzle, bi-coloured eyes gazing down at the weasely creature with an odd sort of affection. It was weird how the two animals had seemed to become so bonded after a simple encounter at that rock. But, who knew, that rock was said to have some special powers. Who was to say it couldn't bond two different animals?
Solace brought her nose down against the little rodent's back lightly, offering him a small nudge before she allowed her tongue to slip past her teeth and run across the creature's back in one swift motion. Grinning goofily, she pushed herself up from the ground, shaking herself off as she did so, removing and bits of fallen leaves or petals which may have fallen onto her while she was napping. The sleek furred animal stirred as she rose, her beady black eyes popping open and staring at her with the same fierce intensity they always seemed to hold. Although the creature looked slightly annoyed at being disturbed and woken up, Solace knew she wasn't too upset, she would have been able to sense it. It was just another one of those weird things that she couldn't explain. Solace was honestly grateful for the little mink's rather unusual appearance, and couldn't have been happier now that they had this unexplainable bond. She finally felt like she had a friend, another of which didn't have a voice, just like her. One who didn't judge, but merely followed her around, was content just to be around her. They were very aware of each other's feelings and well being, and that was enough for the both of them.
Smiling contently, Solace stretched herself out, then began walking, her bright bi-coloured eyes roaming the earth around her. She was headed for the tiny pond that she knew was near the mountain, a thirst burning at the back of her throat. She moved at a slow lope, her tail swishing at her flank as she moved. She couldn't hear the little mink she called Solstice following her, but she knew that the little creature wouldn't be far behind. She was almost positive that if she looked behind her, she would see Solstice slinking through the grass at her heels, silently but quickly. She smiled at the image, her ears flattened back against her skull as she moved on, trying to keep the wind from whistling in her ears.
It didn't take them long to reach the pond, a small, very still body of water which was reflecting the sun brilliantly. Solace's pace decreased as she neared the water's edge, and she sniffed at the water's surface delicately. It wasn't like she was worried it was contaminated or anything, it was just a habit she'd adopted and now couldn't get out of. She let her tongue slip past her maw again and started lapping at the liquid in fast, greedy bursts. She could see Solstice moving up beside her in her peripheral vision, and her tail wagged lightly. Solstice was dipping her snout into the water and then rubbing her face against her tiny little paws, as if giving herself a rather shabby bath. Once her thirst was quenched, Solace moved away from the water, her tongue running over the ridges of her muzzle to clean off any droplets which had collected in her whiskers or fur. She stopped a little way off, settling her haunches onto the ground as she gazed at the little mink who was still playing at the water's edge.
She could have curled back up right then and there, but she fought off the urge, deciding it would be more beneficial if she found a meal of sorts. It had been a little bit since she'd last eaten, but that wasn't surprising for her. Solace generally went long periods of time without food, she was a loner after all, and she had grown used to the frequent lapses between meals. She let her eyes close for a moment, simply enjoying the heat collecting in her fur and warming her up. She was startled when a rather unexpected image began forming in her head. It was a wolf, but it was shocking just how vivid it appeared. It was as if she was actually looking right at him. She could feel her face twisting with confusion, but she didn't dare open her eyes yet. It was a slightly older looking wolf, his pelt somewhat shaggy with a range of colours which all seemed to blend around different tones of brown. What was most captivating about him, though, was his eyes. Solace was instantly drawn to them, they were almost hypnotic. They were a very unusual colour, almost a reddish purple. Solace shook her head slightly, unnerved by the weird picture in her head. She fought her eyes back open, blinking in surprise at the sudden glare of sunlight. Just daydreaming or something, nothing to get worked up about, she assured herself.

normal - "talking" - 'thoughts' ____________________
It was crisp outside, but the sun was bright enough to ward off any ill effects. The plants did not seem to care much about the snap on the breeze; leafy and green, they were ready to experience spring in all its glory. There was little snow about, and for that he could only feel grateful. While he had no problem walking through the slush that came with spring, he was thankful he did not have to do so. It was late enough now that most of it had already run into the lakes and rivers and there it would stay until next winter when it began again to fall as snow. He rather enjoyed firm ground under his paws. The mushy gunk that had been the norm for his days had greatly lowered out his enjoyment of the sunshine. But this area was dry and, for the most part, warm. He lifted his nose, dragging in the scents around him from the erratic wind. No strangeness met his nose, just the unusual smell of a new place. It was a new area for him, and he wished to explore it. The mountain had been a sort of beacon after he had left the pass. He'd decided to start here - one because it was close, and two because he liked the looks of it. It was a large thing, a landmark he wouldn't forget anytime soon, and when he'd traveled over here he had found the earth dry and the air - if not the breeze - warm. He felt it important to come here and he wasn't one to kick a feeling when it made itself known. He understood well and good that some things just couldn't be explained. He wasn't all that worried about why he'd been drawn here, nor was he in any sort of rush. He may be looking for a home, but V had never been one to travel with any real hurry. He had a vague goal in mind, and when he found the end of it, he'd know.
He snorted at himself, aware he'd been standing and thinking for the past ten minutes. While he wasn't in a hurry, he knew he was just wasting time he could spend finding out why he'd traveled here. His fur prickled as the wind blew again and he frowned as a hunk of it fell to the ground. His winter coat had been thick, the shock of any sort of cold weather enough to have his system freaking out. Now he was a mess, the tuffs of downy underfur clumping and falling out at the slightest provocation. He sighed and watched the fur roll away on another breeze. He shook quickly, a mist of hair taken cover. He sneezed and moved a few steps away. Every other wolf he'd seen looked exactly like him. This molting was uncomfortable, to be honest, but it was normal. Or...it would be if he'd been this far north for years instead of a few months. He rather enjoyed the absence of the need for a winter coat. He lifted a leg to scratch at his belly with blunt claws. More fur came out, but not it wads. This portion of his body was smoother then his back and sides. Once finished, he moved forwards and away. He'd end up sneezing again if he remained there. And anyway, he'd rather not sit staring at the mountain all day when he'd traveled to see it. The ground under paw was grassy and mossy, and few trees broke the stretch of landscape. Bushes were more common, and their flowers were thriving, brightly colored spotlights in the green. It was rather beautiful, to be honest. He had forgotten how joyful it was to see life bloom once more after a harsh winter. It made one appreciate those things much more.
His ears angled back at the alarm call of a bird, but it went quiet soon after and he didn't worry about it. His ruddy eyes flicked toward the mountain peak again and this time his body followed the look. He settled into a trot, tail swinging from side to side behind him. It was an easy pace that allowed him to take in the sights instead of just traveling. Very little thought made their appearance in his mind. He recorded what he pasted, enjoying the grass and shrubs, and making small choices on which way he should go. His brain calmed and he relaxed, letting his body do the work. Time passed swiftly this way, and soon enough the mountain was spearing high above him. It was a hulking shadow on the land, the sun having slid behind a little before. He squinted up at it as he slowed to a walk. He didn't want to climb it, doubted he really could get most of the way up, but he liked the looks of the thing, even with the absence of details his eyesight caused. What had brought him here had yet to show itself, so he took one last look up and loped forward, following the line of shrubs before they gave way to mountain shale. His paws gripped true, even when he had to bound up the slope a few yards to avoid a hold in the path. He was quick to snap up a meal when his motions sent a flurry of birds out of the brush. Feathers settled onto the ground as he slowed to a trot, pleased with himself as only a hunter can be. A trophy, really, and not much of a meal, but he was not starving. The thrill had just been too much for him to not go after the snack. Blood stained his muzzle and his sides were heaving slightly from his run. He snorted. Age was catching up on him. His square head twisted, looking for a place to eat his meal in peace.
He headed up the mountain, squinting to see farther into the distance. The fuzzy shapes were nothing but blobs of color, but he thought he saw a gleam of blue. A lake? A river? ...His imagination? But it was a lead and he was thirsty so he headed in that direction. The thump of the bird against his chest was something to push him forward. The sooner he got there the sooner he'd get to eat his meal. He was quiet as he moved through the brush, slower now that there was more plant growth he could run into. And he didn't want to trip over any stones or roots. His eyesight was enough of a problem without making him appear clumsy. He moved slow not just to be deliberate, but to make up for his flighty sense of sight. Though his pace was cut in half, he smelled the water soon enough and cheered silently for it. Not a wasted effort then. He grinned through the carcass in his mouth, leaping ahead a bit faster to reach his goal. No smells but that of his intended meal filled his nose, but he didn't worry about that. His ears and eyes would be enough. He reached the waters edge quickly, stones clacking under his paws. The bird was dropped carelessly and he leaned over to take a few, quick laps. The water was cold, no doubt from ice run off. He shivered lightly as it his his gut, but took a few more mouthful before lifting his head. Water dripped off his chin as he scanned the bank. He blinked, clearing his eyes a little. Nothing moved that he could tell and his swiveling ears picked up little. Satisfied, he picked up the bird, following the waters edge to find a good, sheltered place to feast. He concentrated on his steps, the rocks an effort he'd normally avoid.
He huffed out a breath as he moved a little away. A whiff of scent hit his nose and his gaze jerked up, just in time for an errant rock to catch his foot. He swore through the feathers, a grumbling sound of annoyance as half his body slipped forward. Rocks clattered gaily around him, as if pleased with their destruction. He grunted as his shoulder hit the ground in a shuffle of movement. He spat the bird out, lips rolling back in a grimace of pain as he shifted his back ways so he could stand again. His eyes then flicked about and noticed the white form of a wolf. A sigh escaped his muzzle. Just great he'd had to be caught bumbling around like a pup. He snapped his teeth closed, and got up quickly, ignoring the throb in his shoulder. He send a brief glance at the female, offering a slightly sheepish grin at his own fall. He let only his toes cling to the earth, waiting till the pain died down. He'd never live it down if he injured himself on rocks. What pack would like him around then? He wondered if the female - he'd realized this after another breath - was at all angered by his sudden entrance. True he couldn't have helped it, but really, who wanted this sort of thing to happen to them? He cleared his throat in the brief silence before speaking. "Sorry to fall in on you, miss," he spoke, flashing a small smile. Might as well joke it off, he decided.

She let a long, heavy sigh escape her maw as her bi-coloured eyes refocused themselves on the mink's slender frame cleaning itself by the lakeside. Her brows had tilted downward in slight frustration, a slight annoyance building up within her. Why was it that lately she couldn't escape all these weird thoughts and images that kept forming in her head? She didn't know, but she sure as hell knew that it was annoying. She didn't like drifting off into such deep thought, it scared her because she couldn't concentrate on the actual things that were going on around her, and being such a small, skinny little wolf made her very vulnerable. She flicked her ears back in annoyance, the fur at her nape bristling slightly. She pushed herself up from the ground, gaze straying from Solstice for a moment as she traced the ground with her nose in a lame attempt to find any sort of inviting scent which might indicate some sort of small game nearby.
She didn't pick up anything of great interest, just a few stale scents which were still lingering in the air beside the lake. Sighing in defeat, Solace lifted her head from the ground, and was about to turn around and seek out her little weasel friend which she felt an unexpected peak of anxiety overwhelm her. Solace was quite aware that this emotion was not her own, but she couldn't stop the feeling from coming on, and she immediately understood that the anxiety was radiating from the little mink. She whirled around, her bi-coloured eyes wide and anxious for Solstice. Was something wrong with her? As soon as she turned, she was faced with the sight of another wolf tumbling down the rocks, obviously one had given way and caused him to go crashing into the ground. She breathed in once deeply, a surprised sound which caused her to remember her little friend. She glanced about wildly, but she didn't see the little animal anywhere.
She could feel herself growing desperate with this, her eyes flicked toward the wolf who was regaining his footing, and then to the ground under him where the rocks had defiled. Solstice had been sitting just about there only moments before. Had this wolf crushed her friend? A hot flare of anger ran through her, her hackles raising without her consent. If anything had happened to her friend, she didn't know what she would do. She stopped moving just short of the stranger, her entire body gone rigid with the thoughts running through her head. Her nostrils flared expectantly, seeking out anything which might indicate blood. But, there was nothing. This calmed her nerves enough for her to regain her head, and she reached back into the darker recesses of her brain, and tried to locate that funny little tickle which seemed to announce Solstice's presence. A relieved sigh left her muzzle when she found it, and her tail waved from side to side lightly at her flank. She was alright, just hiding somewhere after being scared off by the sound of falling rocks.
This brought Solace's attention back to the present, and upon the wolf who was now just before her. She hadn't really taken into account his appearance up to this point, but now that he had straightened himself out and was standing before her, she almost lost her breath. She could feel her jaw unhinge, her muzzle separating in awe. Her bi-coloured eyes latched onto his own bizarrely coloured ones, and she could hardly believe what she was seeing. They were the same vivid, reddish purple eyes she had seen in her mind only a few minutes earlier. She shook her head slightly, blinking a few times as if it were simply a mirage and would disappear when she opened them again. This was not the case. She let her gaze slip over the rest of him, and was even more surprised to see that his pelt was the same brown toned one of the wolf in her vision. This was indeed the same wolf she had seen in her head.
She didn't know what to do, she knew she probably looked completely idiotic, but she couldn't clear the expression off her face. She was dumb-stricken. How could she have seen this exact same wolf in her head just moments before he arrived, when she had never seen him before? Without realizing what she was doing, Solace could feel herself moving back a few steps hesitantly, obviously shaken by this completely obscene situation. She didn't flinch when she felt something brush her front ankle, she knew it was just the little mink she was so fond of, and she felt somewhat calmer now that Solstice was with her again. It was funny how much that little creature could put her mind at ease. Solace's ears flicked forward as the male spoke up, his voice somewhat sheepish, although he seemed to be trying to make light of the situation. Were she not so stunned, Solace might have offered the other wolf a smile, but as it were, she had no idea what to do. She'd never experienced something like this before.
She finally managed to close her gaping mouth, but she could not muster up any words to say. She would have loved to pip up and ask who the hell he was, and how the hell he managed to get in her head, but she couldn't. Not only was she shocked, but she lacked the basic instruments to speak out loud. This frustrated her, and she flattened her ears to her skull in a sort of submissive manner, her bi-coloured eyes searching the other wolf's face tentatively. The little mink at her heels seemed to sense her tension, and moved a few steps forward, craning it's long neck out toward the other wolf while sniffing at the air frantically. It was a comic sight, and Solace couldn't help but form at small smile at her maw. She reached her forepaw out and nudged the little animal back toward her, before returned her attention to the male and tilting her head to the side lightly. Where was she supposed to go from here? She was well aware that since he had spoken, she was supposed too, but she just couldn't bring herself to do it, even with the little mink there as encouragement. Instead she simply looked at the other wolf and rolled her shoulder blades, a light smile still displayed across her features, as if saying it was okay. She honestly didn't mind his appearance now that she knew Solstice hadn't been harmed, and despite the fact that she was slightly unnerved by the fact that he had been in her thoughts only a little while before.
notes; ew omg. this is the most terrible post i've ever written, sorry. i just have no muse, but i didn't want to keep you waiting anymore x.x

normal - "talking" - 'thoughts' ____________________
Well this was awkward. He moved his feet into a firmer hold on the rocky ground. The pebbles dug into the crust of his paw pads, each one in the forefront of his mind for some odd reason. He let his short, blunt claws grip the undependable ground. Satisfied that he wasn't going to go sliding on the loosened soil and settled his gaze on the female for more than a glance. A warm tickle had him forgoing looking at her and instead to his front leg. Thick blood dribbled through the fur on the inside of his arm. He frowned at it. Of all the things to do, he had to fall down in front of another wolf. He wasn't that old. Not that he was denying his age. He was at an advancing age of six and a half - a just-out-of-prime age. The fact his eyesight had started to leave him was just a testament to his genes not age. At age five things had started to blur and now he was here, hardly able to see details at a short distance. His pink tongue licked over the blood, removing the liquid if not the stain before finally looking toward the she-wolf. She was a rather small creature. Slim, dainty but not weak. Her delicate features made her face very feminine, even to his eyes. At first he marked off her pelt as white, but another glance had him reevaluating that. Grey and light browns flickered over the high points of her face and back, adding depth and a unique twist to her form. Without thinking, he squinted slightly, to bring her eyes into better focus. He could see a gleam of color, but he gave up there. He was too far away to attempt again. The sheepish grin that had alighted on his face stayed in place - an easy look on V.
He gave his tail a brief wag that stalled when she stepped forward and her face became clearer. Now he could see her expression and he pretty bi-colored eyes. And they were angry. The grin faltered and slid off his face and he lowered his ears slightly. Well, he was not welcome. Maybe she blamed him for falling in on her - like it was his fault the rock had grabbed his foot. He seemed to be meeting all the touchy females in Everfrost. He had yet to find a wolf that would just have a conversation or quiet companionship. V was a wolf that liked people around him. Sure he could enjoy his time alone but he loved to be in the presence of others. When he had a group he could listen to stories and share news and just socialize. He liked being part of an organization. He'd learned that in every pack he'd joined down South. As weird as they'd been he'd quickly realized he had reached the point where being a loner was not something he enjoyed. Even now his bulky frame had withered by pounds. His bones were large so he did not appear stick-like as many loners appeared after a hard winter but he had not made it out without loss. His skin drooped around his ribs which were just showing. Rabbits could only do so much, specially when they became harder to find. Thank the gods that the spring was here and they'd become more abundant. That and all the fawns that were much easier to catch than their parents. How he missed deer. But oh well, food was food and the pheasant.....Abruptly he realized that he had lost his bird. His mouth tightened before he relaxed and let it roll away. He'd catch something else if he couldn't find it. A brief glance around his feet didn't make it show up, so he turned back to the female.
His search had apparently spurred her own. He watched her glance around him and he lifted a paw, looking under his belly and skittering slightly right, wondering idly if he'd tumbled over a meal or her nest or something of that sort. Nothing made its appearance and he turned back to the light colored wolf with an expression of confusion. Then she relaxed as suddenly as she'd become angry. He blinked, lifting his eye ridges in silent question. His expressive mulberry eyes took in her face as she glanced at him. The shock on her face would have been comical if he wasn't so lost in her mood swings. Also if it hadn't been directed at him. He frowned at her, seeing if she'd get it out of her system, but an extended few seconds later her face hadn't changed. "I really am not that weird looking," he commented, a side of his mouth quirking up. He let himself see the amusement there. He'd always rather laugh than be offended and he didn't know what she was thinking. She could just be gaping at....okay well there wasn't anything else to gape at. He shook his head lightly. Odd female. And then movement caught his attention and a blob of brown moved around the wolf's ankles. She didn't react so he didn't point it out. It was long in shape, and moved in a slinky manner. A weasel? He cocked his ears forward curiously even as the female shut her mouth and the small animal leaned toward him. He lowered his skull for a better look, but the female tucked the dark brown mass behind her front legs. Like a mother scoots her pups behind her when she isn't sure about her latest visitor. He straightened again, picking up the flattening of her ears and he twitched his tail pleasantly.
The silence stretched a moment and he wondered what he was supposed together. Was her silence meant to be construed as 'leave' or what? She was calm now, as if accepting he was no longer a threat. Realization lit his eyes. Ah, so he'd almost fallen on her weasel friend. His leg was starting to throb, but he leaned down slightly and smiled lightly. "Sorry, little one. Didn't mean to fall on you. It was rather rude of me." Whether it understood him wasn't the point. V was eccentric enough to not mind talking to a large rodent and not its mistress. He had, after all, almost killed it, not her. He leaned up, a grimace flickered over his face before he cleared it away. "I am sorry, miss. I would give you the bird I had caught...if I could find the thing." He shrugged, a very relaxed movement as he accepted her silence and state of mind. He watched her for a reply, though he had only gotten a bodily response last time. Maybe she was just shy?

Now that she had gotten herself back under control, and her priorities were straight, Solace decided that she should probably take the time, and be respectful enough, to at least make sure that this wolf was okay. He had taken a relatively nasty tumble, after all. Her bi-coloured eyes swept over his brawny frame, taking a moment to linger on his front legs. The unusual splash of colour was quite prominent, and Solace could feel her features drawing into a look of distaste. She hated to see other wolves getting hurt, and the male had obviously done a good job of messing up his leg. She lifted her gaze back to his face somewhat sympathetically, and offered a small wave of her tail. This was the closest to words she could get. She would offer subtle body language to speak for her rather than words, hopefully this would get her through? She highly doubted it, she could never get out of a situation without having to speak, it just wasn't how the world worked.
She could feel Solstice's whiskers twitching against her ankle as she pulled her back, her motherly instincts kicking in. Solace had always had the unconscious desire for motherhood, but she was too socially awkward and shy to ever be able to do anything about it, she didn't have the basic necessities to form any sort of relationship with another wolf. Solstice was the closest thing she ever thought she'd get to a pup, and that's why her little weasel companion meant absolutely everything to her. The corners of her lips lifted slightly with this thought, and she glanced down at the little mink, watching the curious expression which was laid out across her face at the newcomer. Solace was mildly surprised when the brown wolf lowered his head and spoke to the creature between her paws, and she could feel her fur bristle in surprise, her brows rising in amusement. She didn't even speak out loud to the little animal.
This male was eccentric, that was for sure, and Solace immediately felt herself growing a sort of respect for him just because of that simple gesture. If he would include Solstice in his conversation, and not have to inquire about the oddities of the situation, Solace figured he deserved some sort of reply. She wagged her tail lightly at her flank, gaze lingering on the stranger's face with a light curiosity. She let herself step forward, ears flicking toward the male as he spoke up yet again. Solace didn't think the little mink had understood the words coming from his mouth, but the weasel-creature seemed to appreciate them just the same. Solace could feel the happy mood radiating from the little animal because it had been included in something. Solace's gaze turned frantic for a moment as she tried to muster up the courage to speak to the male, she decided that if she could not speak for herself, she at least had to offer a word of thanks from Solstice.
She frowned slightly, brows creasing as she tried to reach the telepathic channel in her mind. It had been a while since she'd needed to use it, and she wasn't entirely sure how to go about it anymore. She could feel the familiar tickle after a few seconds, however, and she managed to spit out a few nervous, choppy words. She's happy. It wasn't much, but it was a start. Solace wasn't even entirely sure that the brown wolf would know what she was talking about. Maybe he wouldn't even understand that it was her that was talking to him? Maybe he'd think he was going nuts and hearing things. As if sensing Solace's unease, the little slinky mammal skirted around her paws, circled the brown wolf once quickly, before returned to it's spot between her paws and moved on to grooming itself. Shaking her head lightly, Solace lifted her gaze back to the other wolf, a light, shy smile still laid across her features.
She wondered how awkward he must have felt, how weird he must have thought she was. She lowered her head slightly in an unconscious apologetic manner, hating herself for not having the basic skills of communication. A small sigh escaped her throat, and she braced herself as she attempted to reach out to him again. Is your leg okay? She ignored his comment about the bird, deciding that she didn't have the mental strength to actually muster up a long enough reply. She was surprised that she'd managed to spit out anything other than her first two words in reference to the mink. She was worried about the other wolf, she could tell his leg was aching by the way he was standing and distributing his weight. She was still slightly unnerved by the wolf, she still didn't understand how she had been able to see him before he had actually arrived, but she decided she wouldn't press that issue yet, maybe she was just going crazy? She wouldn't have been surprised, weirder things had happened throughout her life.
