The sea. It pulled greedy fingers through her short coat, Jael had stood there by the side of the sea with her lungs filled with oxygen, holding her breath as the fury of the winds ripped her lean diaphragm side to side. She wavered like a little tree in the wind, yet would be refused to be knocked from her feet. Jael would never bow, would never fall, she was too solid for that. Her personality, even her diaprahgm, she was too strong for some hurricane force winds. Her silver eyes scanned behind her, the blood from her heart throbbing in her ears as she looked behind her. One more glance, one more chance. She didn't have to do this, didn't have to give up on the only life she had known for the last year and a half. Jael could turn back around, scamper up the side of the mountain and curl up on her podium outside of Nivex's den. But she couldn't do that, she had come this far.
There was no turning back.
Filling her lungs with the precious oxygen, Jael stepped one more paw into the undulates that beckoned her into the body of water and tumbled into the sea.
Time had passed, as it always does, and Jael believed she had swam forever. Though forever could have been four hours, it could have been four days, it also could have been four weeks. The nights and the days always blended into one another. The seas were blissfully calm, and yet with their rocking motion they threw the female for a loop. She struggled the whole way, her body being tossed recklessly through the sea as if she were merely a spec of dust being manipulated in the wind. If she did not find land she would evaporate like a drop of water on a hot stone and with determination in her spirit she refused to die, a victim to the sea.
Land was abundant as soon as she found it. The waves have crashed her onto the shore, shivering and soaking wet to the bone, the dame was more than grateful to strut on land after pumping through the ocean for what seemed to be eternity. Her limbs had shook at first, uncertain at her weight, her haunches and shoulders sore. Not only physically exhausted but mentally also, Jael had taken time for herself as the life of a loner on these new lands and decided she needed to rest a bit. The sound of her "lover", the only one who she had ever thought that feelings might exist between them resounded through her scull. "You small little runt... you're smart. Use that." Then Niv had gone quiet, receding into his den. He often forgot about her, and their feelings were never pronounced, but you couldn't disregard chemistry when it was there.
But that life is gone. Paws knead the ground beneath her lithe frame. It had been three days since she tumbled roughly from the sea who gratefully spit her out on these lands. Well, not these lands, she was currently on the borders of the first pack she had seen. They seemed small in numbers, probably in need of wolves from the amount of personages she had seen scouting the borders and milling around uselessly. One male in particular had been particularly adamant about scouting the borders, presumably the alpha male. She hadn't dared venture into the lands without permission before, surely that would get her killed, it would have in her former homelands. You would have been slaughtered and then used as a sacrifice, quickly if you were of the opposing tribe.
This was different. This was a normal pack, somewhere where everyone had equal respect for one another and abuse wasn't a regular event on the regime of the day. Everyone had a job and she had to remind herself once again, they respected one another. That would be a harder concept to wrap around her brain than anything else, that here she wasn't inferior to one gender - to one race. Dipping her maw closer to the ground Jael sniffed the ground, she was definitely at a border for he had well marked it. Paws continued to knead the ground, mulling over and over whether or not to call. She hadn't done this before, everything was new and sensational to the obsidian maiden. Just the thought of what could become of her sent chills of excitement down her spine, something that Jael rarely felt - if ever - it was a good feeling.
Much like the plunge she had taken into the sea, Jael took the plunge her also. Elongating her throat and thrusting her muzzle upward the black wolf howled, one distinct soprano note that would entice a member to come running forth. Hopefully someone of enough stature to accept her bodice into the lands so she could get to work, she missed having a job to perform. Jael would get impatient if she wasn't working, didn't have something to do or to keep her energy level down. Built for speed and endurance when she wasn't hunting among the tribe she was working out, running up and along the hillside to better her skeletal frame to perform at her best. Laziness would have gotten you killed.

Rostyn knew it. There was less snow on his lands than there had been before. In fact, in some places there was no snow at all. Only in the shade had the snow managed to avoid being melted. And with the melting of the snow came a new freedom for Rostyn. He roamed away from his den more and more often, visiting the lands that he found dull in the winter. Though he still patrolled in winter, he preferred to do it in the spring, summer, and fall, when he could see the beauty of the lands that he had claimed. But spring was his favorite time of the year, when the flowers bloomed and everything was green. Two-Medicine Valley would be an amazing sight to behold then, and he intended to be there as soon as the flowers bloomed. It would be like looking at a rainbow on the land, rather than in the sky. For now, however, he was wandering though Jirai forest, near the border that was closest to the dens, marking the territory there. He felt it important to keep the borders closest to the dens as well marked as possible, to make sure that everyone knew that wolves lived there. An invasion near the dens would be a bit of an inconvenience.
He was just finishing a new set of marks on the border when his ears picked up a sound in the air. At first it was quiet, but then he could hear it growing louder. It took him mere moments to recognize it as a howl, and one that he did not recognize. It sounded as though it were coming from the plains. That would make it harder to pinpoint than if it had come from somewhere else, as the plains made up the largest portion of his territory. He would find the caller, though, and answer. But first, he finished the last of his marks, trotted over to a stream that was nearby, and grabbed a quick drink of water. Marking his territory always left him a little thirsty afterward. Only when he felt refreshed did he set off towards the plains at a steady lope.
The trees passed by rather quickly, and soon he was out onto the plains. The moment he left the cover of Jirai Forest he pricked his ears forward and began to listen for signs of approach. His eyes scanned the area and he slowed a little. The plains could be a dangerous place. There were fewer places to hide from enemies or to sneak up on intruders, and he was wary of that. It did not help that his white fur had a tendency to stand out against anything that was not also white. Despite his wariness, however, he trudged onward, towards the border of the plains. It was some time before he reached it, and by then he had caught the scent of a stranger on the wind, altered his course a bit, and was headed straight for the stranger. Soon he would find them, but he still needed to cover more ground before he reached the place where they were waiting for him.
A few minutes later the scent was very strong and he knew that he was close. And, not long after that he spotted something black as he crested the top of a small rise on the plains. He leaped forward, heading towards the stranger quickly, but slowed as he reached her. He knew that she would see him, as he had made no attempt to conceal himself and there was no where for him to hid even if he had wanted to. As he reached the black figure waiting at his border, Rostyn did not change his posture to that which an alpha had the right to carry. While most alphas would have raised their heads and tails in dominance, Rostyn kept his at a normal height, as if he were just another member of the pack.
When he was just ten feet from the female he stopped and asked, "You called? Can I help you with something?" Though he had a good idea of why she had called, it never hurt to ask.
