"Talking"
Today was as boring as yesterday and as uneventful as the many days before that. It had been a very long time since he had actually been even moderately interested in anything, which was, frankly, a bit annoying. Boredom was almost as irritating as being irritated and both left Tok in a very bad mood. Adding to that was the fact that he hadn’t had a chance to eat recently, which definitely wasn’t helping.
The dark wolf’s ears were perked as he looked around, taking in the area he’d wandered into. It was a forest, but besides that it wasn’t anything too special. Trees were covered with leaves and the occasional flower bloomed, but neither of those things really interested the male. Still, he returned to his walk, which led him even deeper into the forest, and eventually he came to an odd sight. The tree before him seemed to be nothing but flowers and, as he stepped into the glade, an oddly peaceful feeling flowed over him.
Of course, being the sort of wolf that he was, Tok immediately dismissed that feeling; clearly, it was a direct result of his hunger and had nothing to do with the actual area. Even the soft brush at his mind that usually signaled the presence of someone’s thoughts was ignored; it was so light that he didn’t find it worth paying attention to. Still, he was tired, so when he saw that the place before him looked so comfortable, he decided that he might as well take a nap. The odd feeling slowly subsided as he walked up to the tree and curled up beneath it, though as his mind drifted off into unconsciousness, the feeling slowly returned.
It felt like he was being watched, though by what or whom he couldn’t say; he couldn’t read any minds nearby, so it wasn’t as if there could be anyone there. If nobody was there then there couldn’t be anyone watching him, right? Still, it was the slight push the male needed to look around, not that his eyes told him anything he didn’t already know.
“Damn…” he muttered as he closed his eyes again, “I must be getting old or something.” The snort that followed that statement proved to the open air that he was kidding; clearly he would never grow old. He was far too important for that.
Since he could find no reason behind his paranoia, Tok decided he might as well sleep. It had been a while since he’d done that as well, so it took a surprisingly short amount of time before he drifted off, and this time it stuck. The sleep that found him was the sort of deep sleep that took far more than the soothing sounds of the forest to disrupt. Unfortunately for him, he was out cold.

He wasn’t sure how, but Thorn knew that this strange wolf with the pink eyes had something to do with his past.
Perhaps it had been something his mother had said. He couldn’t remember what she had told him about their father, but it had been clear that she had hated him. Before she had abandoned him all those months ago there had to have been at least something that she had said about their father. But he couldn’t recall it.
Something he did remember was his younger brother’s eyes. Turnip. He could recall that the younger pup, abandoned just before Thorn himself had been abandoned, had eyes with at least a small amount of pink in them. Thorn himself had the usual light, yellowish eyes of a wolf. His sister Leaf, had not had pink eyes. And he couldn’t remember what Rock or Blossom’s eyes looked like. Perhaps that was the connection his was making with this wolf. Pink eyes were so rare. Perhaps Thorn was assuming that this strange male with pink eyes was related to him because of Turnips eyes.
Whatever the reason, the first time Thorn had seen this strange wolf with the pink eyes he had felt the need to follow him. He kept his distance and only took occasional breaks to hunt and take care of himself. He lost a little weight doing this, and he began to sleep lightly. He kept at least three hundred feet away from the stranger at all times. Thorn knew all too well about the magic that ran through Everfrost. It was possible that this wolf had some kind of power that could affect anyone at a close distance. So Thorn stayed away, trailing the wolf as he traveled. He wasn’t sure what he intended to gain from following this stranger. Perhaps he was seeking knowledge. Or perhaps he was seeking some form of revenge on the wolf that may have been his father. Maybe – just maybe – he was bored and needing something to keep him busy for a while.
Thorn had been following the male through the forest for days. He hadn’t had a chance to hunt during that time and he was getting hungry. But the male hadn’t stopped in a while either, and Thorn wanted to keep up. There was a feeling in him that told him something was going to happen soon, and he wanted to be there for that event. He paid little attention to anything but the male with pink eyes, wanting only to focus on keeping up with his target. That is, until the male stopped beneath the one tree in the forest that could possibly catch his attention.
At the moment, Thorn had his feelings completely shut off. But the tree still elicited some form of emotion inside of him. He wasn’t sure what it was, but there was something important about this tree. He was still several hundred yards from it, but he felt certain that the feeling would intensify if he moved any closer. The tree was tall and stood out from the rest of the trees in the forest. There were no leaves; only white blossoms that shined in the light that managed to reach it. It had its own sort of clearing, though it wasn’t very large. Thorn wasn’t sure what his feelings meant, and he didn’t dwell on them. Instead, he turned his attention back to the male, who had curled up near the roots of the tree and appeared to have gone to sleep.
Thorn watched the male, who apparently woke up and looked around for a moment, but then drifted back off to sleep. He seemed very still, as though he were in a deep, deep sleep. This was promising. Perhaps Thorn could get closer now and study the wolf a little more. The question was, however, what would he do now that he had his opportunity to get close?
Thorn crept forward slowly, keeping alert for any signs of wakefulness from the stranger, but seeing none. So he continued his approach until he was just a few feet from the wolf with pink eyes. Though Thorn was not certain that this wolf was his father, he was certain that his suspicions were correct. If he thought hard enough, he could almost remember his mother muttering about pink eyes at some point or another. This had to be his father. This had to be the wolf that was the reason for his existence; the cause of all of the hardships that Thorn had endured during his year of life.
With that in mind, Thorn knew that this wolf needed to be punished in some way. He turned off his magic, letting emotion flood his mind in a sudden rush that caught him off guard. But he found the emotion he was searching for. Anger. It burned through his mind and took over his body, stealing his ability to think and making him act without reserve. Thorn stretched out a paw, claws extended, and aimed at the stranger’s flank. Since the wolf was asleep, he had no doubt that the stranger would not dodge his attack. He let his paw fall, his aim to tear the stranger’s side open with his claws, which were still very sharp thanks to his young age. After that, let the stranger do as he pleased. Thorn had murder on his mind today, and he didn’t intend to make it quick and painless.

"Talking"
His dreams were odd, to be sure. Truthfully, Tok didn’t dream, which made them even stranger, but even without that in mind they were odd. There was an older wolf who tried to speak to him, but he couldn’t hear her. He could only hear the rush of blood through his ears, the pulse of life as it moved through him. She grew agitated, however, and he noted with a bit of amusement that she looked increasingly worried; the strange wolf even tried to cry out to him, by the looks of it, but he still couldn’t hear a damn thing. Just as he was about to snarl at her to talk louder, dammit, a sharp pain in his side woke him up.
“What the hell?” he barked, certainly not happy about being woken up. It took him a moment to process that there was another wolf right there, since he was usually so alert when it came to others; he must have been quite deeply asleep to miss hearing this stranger’s mind. Still, his groggy mind slowly began to process what was going on and he gave a cruel laugh, “Come to punish me, pup? Go ahead. From the sounds of it you’re just like me. Good luck punishing yourself as well when you turn out the same as the sire you despise so much.” His eyes flashed, not even bothering to hide his malicious glee at the other’s anger. Ooh, he was mad!
Tok could feel the blood oozing from his side, though that cut alone wouldn’t be enough to end him; the other’s claws were sharp, to be sure, but they weren’t long enough to cut too deeply. It would scar, but it wouldn’t kill him. The other male was just a pup, what could he possibly do? Tok stood up, towering over his offspring. His sides heaved slightly, but he didn’t acknowledge the pain that it caused, “You singled me out because of my eyes, eh? Clever, I’ll admit. Still, perhaps you should have looked at the other side of your family tree; that bitch wanted it.” He didn’t even bother finding out her name; he didn’t care one way or another. He’d bred so many females that it wasn’t worth it to keep them all straight, especially when he could learn their names again so easily.
His lips peeled back and he snarled at his son, lunging at his side; he didn’t mean to kill him, just make him fuck off and live his miserable life elsewhere. It left his throat open to a counter-attack, but he doubted the weakling would take it; he was pissed and Tok got the impression that they were quite alike, at least at times, but he didn’t get the feeling that his life was truly in danger. He just figured the whelp needed a place to vent all of his daddy issues.

When his attack hit its mark, Thorn withdrew, backing up about a foot away from the pink-eyes wolf. The rush of anger was already dying off, and now all he was left with was a desire to kill the wolf that was the reason for his existence. Even if this wasn’t the right wolf – and he was sure that it was – at least it would give him some kind of satisfaction. Thorn wasn’t surprised when this wolf seemed to know what was going on in his head. Magic was a part of this land. He had come across wolves with it before. Hell – he had his own magic and he loved it. Thinking of that, he turned his emotions off, no longer having any need for them. He felt them disappear, but he knew they might come back at any time. His magic was still volatile, and he was still young.
He didn’t react to his father’s words. He didn’t even bother to speak, knowing that the male could simply read his thoughts. So that was exactly what he did – he began to think his response to the wolf’s words. ’Punish’ isn’t the word I would use, he responded, not speaking out loud. His facial expressions did not change. His eyes were hard and cold and his mouth was set in a straight line as he looked towards the wolf he was certain was his father. And I am not just like you. I’m much, much worse. You see, I’m not happy about my existence, and whether mother wanted it or not, you gave it to her, which in turn created me. Now that I do exist, I want to make sure that you’re not out here creating any more competition. I don’t need others like me running around. They’ll just ruin things. Not only that, but you are competition, and I can’t have you around. You need to die.
Just as he finished his thoughts he saw the twitch in the wolf’s muscles that were the first sign of a coming attack. He braced himself, watching for an opening. He wanted to cause this wolf pain, but he also wanted him to die. So Thorn searched for an opening for a kill shot even as the male lunged for his side. Too bad that the wolf did not realize just how serious Thorn was about murder that day. Perhaps then he would not have left his neck open during his attack and would have worried more about his own well being. As he lunged, Thorn took the opening and lunged for the male’s neck, almost certain that he would hit his mark. His jaws closed, and he hoped that they were closing around the stupid wolf’s neck..
He felt a sharp pain in his side, but it was not strong and it lasted only a moment. The male had hit, but it was not a serious wound. Thorn was more interested in his opponent’s neck, anyways.

Tok listened when the pup thought, but he didn’t listen; he simply sat there with that cocky smirk on his face, sure that this wasn’t going to end too badly for him. It was his mistake, but he didn’t have long to regret it. For a brief moment, it was clear on his face that he was considering the possibility that the whelp was telling the truth, but that moment passed and he still didn’t believe.
It wasn’t until his son’s teeth embedded themselves in his neck that Thorn realized his error. His heart beat faster as he, for the first time in his life, found himself worrying. His own teeth clamped down wherever they had landed; he wasn’t going to let go if he could possibly help it. Blood oozed from his wound into the younger wolf’s mouth and Tok could smell it; he could already feel his ears getting cold and it wouldn’t be long before the rest of him followed.
He kept himself up, preventing the other wolf from tearing the holes even bigger by his dropping to the ground like some sort of prey. In fact, besides holding on with his own teeth, he was as relaxed as he could make himself on the outside – inside, however, he was still panicking a bit; his offspring was much stronger than he had anticipated and it seemed he could shut his emotions off at will. That meant that Tok couldn’t goad him into making a mistake, which took away his primary fighting strategy. Damn.
It was taking a while for him to bleed out, which meant he had time to formulate a plan. He was going to cause as much damage as possible to his wayward offspring before he died, since he doubted he would come out of this alive. Then, he was going to haunt the hell out of the fucker.

Thorn knew that he had hit something vital when he tasted quite a bit of blood in his mouth. Even his apathy could not stop the thrill that ran through him when he realized that this wolf – his father – was dying. More energy coursed through his body than before and he tensed his jaw, refusing to let go of his father’s throat. A small part of his mind registered that there was a little bit of pain in the area around his shoulder, but the rest of him wasn’t interested.
From the corner of his eye Thorn could see that the brute had managed to get his teeth into the skin around his shoulder. A part of him knew that he should worry about that at least a little, but he didn’t listen. There wasn’t room in his head for worry right now, and he probably couldn’t, anyways. Not with his magic blocking out all of his emotions. Instead, he responded by putting more pressure on the male’s neck, hoping to cut off his air supply as well as do more damage to anything vital that he had managed to find.
He knew that the male was going to die. There was no point in continuing to hold onto the throat, he supposed. This was an afterthought to the increased pressure in his bite. Perhaps, he thought, it might be better if he bled out slowly. Then Thorn could watch him die. Hurrying things along would only make this easier on his father, after all.
With that in mind, he let go and tried to twist away from the male’s grasp on the skin of his shoulder. Surely by now the brute was losing strength and could not hold on for much longer. Blood began to ooze from the wound that had been inflicted by the brute’s teeth, but Thorn still did not worry.
Thorn looked the brute over again. It was clear that he would die. His throat was bleeding heavily. Thorn could see the blood dripping onto the ground. All that was left was for this brute to realize that he was finished and there was nothing he could do about it now. Thorn was a little disappointed. Surely the male who had given life to him should have more fight than this in him. Perhaps this weakling wasn’t his father after all, though the pink eyes made him doubt that. Either way, this wolf was a disappointing fight. Thorn had been hoping for something interesting, but all it took was a quick bite to the neck and it was as good as over.
Thorn didn’t care all that much. And he certainly did not care about his father. He could go to hell for all he cared.
