Explanations
Alphas
These are the leaders of the pack, the pair are always mated. Their rules go without saying and they have the final say about anything that goes on inside the pack.
Heirs
These would be either the pups of the alphas, or someone of special importance to the alpha's who they have said will rule the pack if something were to happen to them.
Betas
Second in-command. The alpha's right hand man. These wolves' opinion matter almost as much as the alpha's. The alpha would never make a decision about the pack without first consulting with the betas. If for some reason the alpha temporarily left the pack, the beta would be left in charge. The pair do not need to be mated.
Warriors
Protectors of the pack. These wolves are usually the biggest and most fit. Speed isn't a main concern with these wolves, muscle and bulk is. These wolves are picked especially for their strength. They are instructed to keep trespassers out, keep the dangerous wildlife (cougars, bears, etc) out of the pack lands as best they can. Warriors also double as hunters in down-time.
Guards
Guards are not chosen for the size or speed, but rather their intelligence. The guards are in charge of patrolling the packs boarders and alerting the alpha's and warriors of any intruders or dangerous wildlife which might be nearing the pack. Guards are also told to greet any wolves' who are looking to join the pack, they are instructed to lead them to the alpha. Guards are also on the lookout for any sudden weather changes, they are supposed to warn the alpha's of any signs of storms so the alpha can decide where the pack will be safest.
Scouts
Usually the fastest and most agile wolves in the pack. These wolves can be sent around to other packs as messengers, or they can be sent out as spies, to gain information for the alpha's. These wolves also double as hunters in their down-time.
Healers
The peace-keepers of the pack. These wolves are in charge of aiding any wounded wolves, they are also supposed to help the pups in the pack as well as any pregnant females and the elder wolves. They double as care-givers and/or hunters.
Subordinates
These are the wolves in the pack without a specific rank. Usually these wolves are new to the pack and the alpha just hasn't decided on a specific task for them yet. They are normally just expected to help bring down hunts or help the care-givers until a position is given to them.
Apprentices
These are the young wolves in the pack, ranging usually from six months to a year in age, who are training for a certain position or task. Once the youngster has received the appropriate training and spoken with the alpha, he will usually be given his desired position in the pack.
Care-givers
These are the wolves who are in charge of tending to the puppies and elders of the pack. They stay behind when the others go for a hunt and make sure the youngsters are well looked after.
Omegas
These are wolves who have betrayed the pack in some way, or who have in some way disrespected the alpha or another member of the pack. These wolves are the least respected in the pack and are usually last for everything, including meals.
