The Past Five hundred years ago a small pack of wolves, four males and and four females, that had banded together came from the land beyond the great mountains, searching for a new place where they could live in peace. The land that they had left, rightfully dubbed Sensoo, was war-torn and wasted. The land itself seemed to have been destroyed by the air of war that hung over everything; the wolves there were in a great civil war - brother fighting against brother, father against son. Families were torn apart and scattered as loved ones were murdered or killed, their relatives taken and forced into slavery. It was from this land that the eight Old Ones escaped from.
The journey wasn't an easy one. Agalthus and Mariette, Leothin, Kintla, Dreothulf, Jaminta, and Kithlar and Silvia had each been separated from their families by the wars that went on among packs, and among lands. Each chose to flee the war-ravaged land. Agalthus was the unofficial leader of the eight. He first joined up with Jaminta and Leothin, a brother and sister who had fled their home when their entire pack was slaughtered by their own father and his followers. Only they had escaped. Then they met Dreothulf, an older wolf that had chosen to leave the pack he had lived in because he felt that they were fighting for the wrong reasons. Then came along Mariette, a young she-wolf that had nearly been killed by her brother before fleeing her home. Agalthus and Mariette got along well; halfway through the journey Mariette became pregnant with Agalthus' pups. Then they found Kintla and Silvia, sisters who had been separated from their mother and father during a battle. Silvia also got along well with one of the brutes; though it was a while before the relationship became apparent, Silvia and Kithlar began to spend most of their time together.
The trail was long and the journey was hard. Untold dangers lay in the unfamiliar lands that the eight traveled across as they searched for a new home. It took three months to reach the circle of mountains. It was then that Kithlar and Silvia made their relationship known and Agalthus and Mariette announced that they were going to have pups. Kintla and Leothin seemed to get along, but nothing more; they were simply good friends. It seemed to be the same with Jaminta and Dreothulf. Then, when they finally came to the foot of the mountains, they knew that they had to make the hardest part of their journey. And so came the crossing of the mountains.
They were lucky that they had come right in the middle of summer. It meant that all of the passes through the mountains were open for travelers and not snowed shut for the fall or winter. As they were traveling through the pass they all decided that it would henceforth be called Snowslip Pass. When they were finally through the mountains they found themselves in a large place, surrounded by mountains, that seemed untouched by any war or famine. It was paradise to the wolves who had been through so much loss and pain. They decided to separate and form their own packs here, to live in peace.
The Beginning Crandell Pack
Agalthus and Mariette went to the smallest part of land, on the other side of the land they had discovered, and formed their own pack. They chose to have the smallest amount of land, even though Agalthus deserved to have the largest for all that he had done for his companions. They called it Crandell, and began to establish borders along the edge of the territory and landmarks within it. They chose a maze of caverns as their den and it was not long before Mariette gave birth to five healthy pups; three females and two males. Deliah, Jazmyne, Kirara, Lutheus, and Kayden formed the rest of the pack. It didn't look as though there were any other wolves in the territory - or in the land - and so they would have to make do as a family for the time being.
The pups grew fast. A year and a half later and they were strong hunters. That was when brave Lutheus left the pack and headed away from the land, back to where his mother and father had come from. He made the journey quickly, only to be horrified by what found there. The wolves were still at war, but the land was stained by blood and there were few wolves left. He managed to convince a few who were weary of the fighting to follow him back home. There were twenty in all who chose to come, and all managed to make it to the land that had come to be known as Everfrost. There they dispersed, five going to each pack in a mutual agreement. Lutheus proudly led the five that were to live in Crandell pack to his father.
Upon arriving he was met by sad faces. Lutheus' mother, Mariette, had become pregnant while he was gone. She had died giving birth to one pup. It had happened only the day before and the pup was weak and near to death. The only thing that saved the little male pup was a female who had lost her pups when they were born on the journey; she was still producing milk and she nursed the pup, who was now called Jinor. In the meantime, Agalthus was helping the newcomers make themselves at home. He was surprised when he found his father in the bunch that had come to his pack, but was even more disheartened when he was told that his mother and only brother and sister were dead. After losing a mate and most of his family, Agalthus was only a shadow of his former self.
It was not long before old Agalthus died and Kayden was chosen to take his place. But Kayden was proud and conceited, not to mention power hungry. Now that he was pack leader he chose a female, Kirshta, as his mate, against her will, and forced her to bear his pups. He treated her badly, but before he had taken her as his mate he had instilled fear in the hearts of his family and pack mates; they would not dare do anything about his treatment of Kirshta. She was weak enough that she died giving birth to three pups, who were then raised by a she-wolf. The she-wolf chosen by Kayden to care for his pups was the same one who had cared for his now full-grown brother, Jinor. She had one pup that she was nursing now, but Kayden killed it so that his three pups, the female Isthma, the male Orthel, and their brother Pratt could be taken good care of.
There was little hope for the pack to be freed from Kayden. He had killed Lutheus long ago and his three sisters and his younger brother had fled. None of the other packs were willing to step in, for fear of war. Still, war broke out anyways as Kayden began to try and take over the others.
Kintla Pack
Leothin had decided that he would take a territory on the other side of Everfrost, in a corner below the territory that Agalthus claimed. Kintla followed him in hopes that he would at least keep her around as the alpha female; she did not want that to entail being mates. He did keep her, allowing her to rule beside him. But there were no other wolves in the territory, and when news reached them that Mariette had given birth they both began to long for pups. It was not long after that, when Kintla was in heat, that Leothin could no longer control his desire for heirs to his land. He, quite against her wishes, raped Kintla, his co-ruler. It was not long before he was sorry for what he had done to his friend, but the deed was done and Kintla was going to bear his pups.
Two males and a female were born. The brothers, Usen and Tath, were much like their mother; sweet tempered at times but great leaders with an unpredictable temperament. Their sister, Gwen, was much like their father; rather laid back, and yet highly intelligent, though foolish at times. They were all great pups, but Leothin and Kintla still did not love each other. When Lutheus came back with the wolves from the other lands and five joined their small pack. Leothin found his true mate, a she-wolf his age that went by the name of Beige. It wasn't long before she was due to have pups and his former three pups lay forgotten along with his co-ruler, Kintla. Kintla never told the pups who their father was. When she fell in love with a brute called Coryn she asked him to pose as their father. He agreed, and so the pups believed that their mother's new mate was their father.
Kintla had pups with Coryn. There were four this time, two males and two females. Around the same time Beige gave birth to two pups, both male. They became the official heirs that would one day become the rulers of the pack. Hoshi and Tsuki were close brothers, but their father had something sinsiter planned for them. Kintla's four pups - Kira, Talon, Stone, and Aryn - grew quickly and greatly, cared for by their mother and father and three siblings. The pack was at peace for the time being.
Then Leothin was murdered. His sons, meant to take over the pack, had killed him, but an older wolf told them what had to be done in order to decide which of them would rule. They had to fight. To the death. The battle between them was bloody and long, but Tsuki finally arose as the winner, the still body of Hoshi hanging from his jaws. It wasn't long before Tsuki abandoned the pack, however, ashamed by what he had done, and disappeared forever. At least, no one knew where he went. It was then that Usen, Tath, and Gwen's true lineage was revealed to them. Usen, the eldest, was chosen to take over, and he led the pack well. But they were plunged into war when the leader of Crandell Pack, Kayden, began to attack.
Glacier Pack
Dreothulf and Jaminta were good friends, but neither loved the other enough to become mates. They were more like brother and sister, and so they chose to rule together equally. They never had any fights; they worked well together. They took the largest territory, which they named Glacier for all of the glaciers that resided on their lands. They were not alone as long as the other pairs were. They discovered a few lone wolves who had been living there for a few years. They, too, had escaped the wars of the other lands. They already had an alpha, but he stepped down and let Dreothulf and Jaminta take charge. There were seven in all that had been living in what was now Glacier territory, and so the Glacier pack was immediately the largest pack in the area.
The seven that had been living there were weak - not in body, but in mind. The suffering that they had escaped from was terrible and they were still recovering from it. Dreothulf and Jaminta did their best, and while they interacted with them Jaminta fell in love with a brute called Traverse. No one knew about the relationship that ensued, and when Jaminta announced that she was pregnant she did not tell anyone who the father was. Choosing to keep that a secret, she bore three pups, Kimina, Calipso, and Soul. Two were female, one was male. Not long after that, Lutheus of the Crandell Pack returned with other wolves, sending five to the Glacier Pack. One of the wolves, called Aku, was power-hungry; he had followed Lutheus to see where these wolves were hiding and had his own plans to take over all of the packs. He never thought that he might have a rival...or two.
Dreothulf never found a mate. He died young from a strange disease. Jaminta took over as the head alpha, even while she cared for three pups. When they were finally old enough, Kimina and Calipso left to join the Nyack pack, leaving Soul with their mother. Soul was the sole male of the litter, and Jaminta never had another because Traverse was killed not long after the pups were grown. He was killed by Aku while protecting his mate. When Aku killed Traverse he went after Jaminta, but she fled to the nearby Nyack pack where her daughters were. Her son stayed behind, allowed to live only because he swore allegiance to Aku, who became the new alpha of Glacier pack.
Aku was a cruel leader and he began to plot attacks on the other packs in Everfrost. But he never got far with the plans because his own pack did not support him. In fact, they often rebelled against him, secretly led on by Soul. But that was not his biggest problem. The Crandell Pack had been through a lot by then and their cruel leader, Kayden, was leading his own attacks against the other packs. If Aku wanted to rule he would first have to take down Kayden and Soul, both formidable opponents.
Nyack Pack
Kithlar and Silvia both headed for the land that they named Nyack - after Silvia's grandfather, a wolf who made peace between two warring packs before total war broke out among the wolves. They chose the only remaining land, but it was land that could sustain a pack, even if it was the least fertile of the four. There was only one other wolf living in the territory at the time, and old brute by the name of White. They called him Old White. He lived with them and they were a pack of three, until Silvia became pregent. Months later she gave birth to two healthy pups, one whom she named Nyack, the male, and one whom she named Jess, the female. They were now a pack of five.
Old White was still alive when Lutheus of the Crandell pack returned and brought five wolves to join Nyack. Not long after the arrival of the newcomers he died from his old age. By then Nyack and Jess were nearly full grown. Nyack was to take the place of his parents when his time came. The five that had joined them were the most peaceful of the twenty that had come to the land. They were determined to live a life without war and hate. They never argued with Kithlar and Silvia, always following their lead. It was rare to have a pack that was so at peace. There were more pups; a pair of the newcomers mated and there were five new additions to the pack. These pups would lead good lives.
But the pack was not to be left in peace. Of the four packs, only Nyack was led by it's original founders and they were growing old. When Kayden, the new alpha of the Crandell Pack, attacked the pack both were killed. Nyack and Jess took over in their place, just as determined to live peacefully as their parents had been. But they would soon be plunged into war whether they liked it or not.

War As alliances grew more and more complex, tensions between the four packs continued to rise. Fighting broke out as Kayden, the alpha of Crandell, began to attack both Nyack and Kintla. In Glacier Aku was struggling to keep control of his pack. Glacier had grown in the last several years and had begun to split in two, with Aku leading one half of the pack and Soul leading the other half in rebellion. Eventually Aku bested Soul, who was forced to flee with his followers. Still, Soul and his band of followers continued to harass Aku from the borders. But, even with the small distractions caused by Soul, Aku managed to launch his own attack against the peaceful Nyack wolves.
Facing attacks from both Crandell and Glacier, Kintla pack turned to Nyack for help. Nyack had so far taken a peaceful stance, though Crandell had attempted to attack it as well. The members within it were torn; one side wanted to helped Kintla and the other did not. Like with Glacier pack, Nyack split in two, with one group being kicked out of the territory entirely. These wolves - the ones that were in favor of defending Kintla - joined with Soul's band to attack Aku and his followers in Glacier. Suddenly with larger numbers, Soul and his band were able to take back Glacier, leaving Soul in charge and sending Aku on his way. Aku and what was left of his followers turned to Crandell, where they were taken in to help with the attacks against Nyack and Kintla.
Nyack continued to keep it's peaceful stance while a powerful Crandell pack fought against the weakened Glacier and Kintla packs. It was not long before Kintla bent to Kayden's will. When they were finally defeated, the Kintla wolves scattered, though a few went to the three remaining packs. Kayden took Kintla territory as his own, then turned his attention to Glacier. Glacier, facing even greater odds now that their only ally was gone, fell quickly. Soul and his wolves scattered, with just a few taking refuge in Nyack, who was sure to be the next target. Soul joined Nyack to try and get the wolves there to realize that they were next on Kayden's list and needed to prepare for an attack, but his attempts failed. When the attack did come no one was prepared and Nyack was crushed. The wolves, including Soul, scattered.
Those who wished to regain their homes banded together to try and fight Crandell. There were enough that the numbers on both sides were about equal. By this time, Aku was dead, but Soul still lived and he was the leader of this new group, which came to be know as the Resistance. Soul and the Resistance launched attack after attack on Kayden and Crandell. Both sides suffered heavy losses, neither winning. When it came down to the final battle, both packs were completely destroyed. The remaining wolves, most tired of war, scattered throughout Everfrost, destined to live out the rest of their lives as loners.
100 Years Later Over the next fifty years the packs reformed and then disbanded again and again in a cycle that seemed to never end. Legends were formed and those who had known nothing but war died, leaving the next generations to fend for themselves. Wolves came from outside of Everfrost, bringing new ideas and new blood with them. During this time the Stone was discovered and magic entered the blood of the wolves, becoming an integral part of the land and the wolves within it. Eventually, the packs disappeared, however, and loners began to stop coming. The wolf population in Everfrost neared extinction.
Then a new alpha re-founded Nyack pack. His name was Rostyn, and he was the first to try to re-form the pack in ten years. Next came Kerrighor, who re-formed Crandell. Both have remained in power for three years now, and there is still hope that both of the packs will somehow flourish. Kintla and Glacier both went through several alphas during this time. The most recent are Skoldpadda of Glacier and and Laya of Kintla, who briefly lost power when a wolf named Sinjin challenged her claim but has since regained control of the pack.
The packs may very well begin to flourish again, but the Stone and the magic of Everfrost constantly presents them with new challenges to face. Curses have begun to appear alongside the magic and a cure must be found or the wolves will once more begin to flee the land. Only time will tell if the packs of Everfrost are ever destined to survive.
