Note: This is our site. We run it as we choose. Some will agree with us and others will not. If you do not like our rules you don't have to stay; you can leave. If you have a problem and you want it addressed, do it maturely. The Chatbox is not a place for arguing about rules. It is for friendly chats among members. Contact an admin if you have concerns regarding our rules.
GENERAL RULES
• respect each other
Members are expected to respect everyone, including guests, other members, and staff. Insulting anyone in any way in OOC, the Cbox, or via PMs is not allowed and should be reported when seen. This includes fighting among members. Staff are expected to respect members and guests as well.
• swearing is not allowed in OOC
OOC boards and the Cbox are no-swear zones, as they are viewable by all ages. However, IC swearing is permissible in order to allow for better characterization.
• the cbox is not for arguing
The Cbox is an area that is meant for friendly chats among members and guests. It is not a place for arguing about anything. If you have a concern - whether you are a guest or a member - share that concern in the appropriate board or with one of the staff members. Rude posts or accusations in the Cbox will be deleted.
• no discrimination
No form of discrimination is allowed on the site. This includes, but is not limited to, racial, gender, and religious discrimination. Any form of slander against another group of people is not allowed. Such actions will result in punishment immediately.
• account rules
We have an Account Per Character (APC) system. This means that for each new character you make you will have a new account as well. Each account's display name should match the name of your character (if your character's name is Bob, then your account's display name is Bob).
• stay active
After creating an account we expect you to post within two weeks. Please do not join unless you have the intention of creating a bio and playing. We also ask that you log in at least every other day unless you have a specific reason that makes that impossible, and we ask that you make at least one post a week (either IC or OOC).
• images should not be more than 500 pixels wide
Images over this width will stretch the board and make it look bad. Signatures should also not be over 300 pixels in height. Images should also carry copyrights when necessary and should not disobey copyright law.
• do not plagiarize
Don't do it. Just don't. Anyone caught plagiarizing will not receive any warnings and will be banned. Plagiarism will be reported to Proboards and, if images are stolen, legal action may be taken under certain circumstances.
CHARACTER APPLICATION RULES
• Characters must be accepted by a staff member before they can be roleplayed. Threads/posts made by characters that have not been officially accepted will be deleted.
• you have two weeks to finish a posted bio
After posting a character application, you have two weeks to finish it. If a "Work in Progress" bio is not finished within two weeks, it will be moved to the archives.
• wait before creating another character
Before you make a new character, you need to post at least 3 times with your most recent character OR you need to wait at least a week after your character has been accepted before creating a new account for a new character.
• no mary sue/gary stu characters
Mary Sue & Gary Stu characters are not what we want to see running around on this site. If you create one you may be asked to change it. A character like this is often "perfect" and liked by everyone.
• there is no character limit
Though you are only allowed one character per account, you can have as many characters (and therefore, accounts) as you want, as long as all of them are active. If your characters are inactive and you try to make a new one, you may be declined.
• this is a wolf-only site
Wolves are the only animals allowed on this site. There are no dogs or wolf-dogs. Humans do not exist in this world.
IN-CHARACTER RULES
• no power-playing, god-modding, or meta-gaming
These three things consist of controlling someone else's character without permission, making your character all-powerful or better than everyone else, or having your character know things when they don't have a reason to know them.
• post at least 300 words in each post
We have a 300 word minimum. If you fail to reach the minimum you will be asked to modify your post before anyone else responds to it. Repeat offenses may result in warnings.
• please post in third person
First person posts are more difficult to read and the majority of roleplaying is done in third person, which is easier to read. We ask that you roleplay in third person.
• use proper spelling and grammar
This is a literate, intermediate-advanced website. Proper spelling and grammar should be used in all IC posts. Excessive mistakes that are not corrected when asked may result in warnings.
• characters can be in up to four posts at a time
This does not include pack meeting threads or (for alphas/other wolves that accept new members) acceptance threads. Plot threads may also be excluded from the maximum at staff discretion.
• mark private threads
If a thread is intended to be private, then please state that it is in the title somewhere.
PACKS & CHALLENGES
• pack hierarchies
Leaders create their own pack rules and hierarchy and determine how you join their pack. Leaders cannot injure, kill, or rape a character without the player's permission. Pack leaders are required to post pack joining information, rules, and ranks in a board provided to them.
• temporary pack leader immunity to challenges
A leader that has gained a pack via tryouts will have 1 month immunity. Leaders that gain a pack via challenge have 1 week of immunity.
• Leaders may be challenged at any time, with no restrictions except for the following:
○A new leader may not be challenged for 1 week
○A leader that has recently won a challenge cannot be challenged again for 1 week
• Once a challenge has been made, the leader has 3 days to reply or they automatically forfeit leadership, except under the following circumstance:
○The player of the leader has posted in the absence board with specific dates of absence. The 3 days will not begin until after they have returned from their absence. However, the absence thread must state a specific period of time in order for this exception to take place.
• If a leader is challenged, then he or she must face the challenge on his or her own, with no help from mates or pack members.
• Similarly, the challenger must challenge alone, with no outside help, unless there are special circumstances (i.e. a plot or a war that has been approved by both parties).
• The challenger and the leader both have a total of three attacks and one dodge. An attack means that one wolf has physically attempted to harm another, even if that attempt failed. A dodge means that the wolf being attacked has managed to completely avoid the attack and has suffered no damage.
• Each post may have a total of one attack and one dodge, and no more, and the total of attacks and dodges may not exceed the limit stated above.
• When a staff member judges a challenge (or any other fight) the following items are taken into consideration:
○quality of each post (includes spelling, grammar, and detail)
○success of attacks (includes the damage inflicted by each attack)
• Each post is judged individually and then awarded points. The player with the most points at the end of the of the challenge wins. Each post is worth 100 points (this includes only posts with attacks in them), so a wolf can earn up to 300 points by the end of the challenge. Points will be removed/rewarded based on spelling, grammar, detail, creativity, realism, and damage inflicted.
For example, say that someone wrote a post with spelling and grammar errors that made the post difficult to read and/or understand. Such a post, if it gained full marks on the other considerations (detail, creativity, realism, and damage inflicted) may only receive 80 points out of the 100 possible.
FIGHTING
• a staff member should be contacted at the beginning of a fight
When you contact a staff member a link to the thread and a list of all the characters involved in the fight should be included in the PM. If the fight is over leadership of a pack, please make sure that you look to the challenging rules.
• staff determine the winner of a fight
Winners are determined by post quality, fighting style, the physical ability of each participant (as described in their biography), severity of injuries, length of posts, and the amount of dodges used. Staff are asked not to judge based on sex, age, known skill of the fighters, or favoritism.
• in a fight, each character has 7 attacks and 2 dodges
Each post in a fight can have one attack and one dodge. A dodge means that an attack completely misses and the wolf using it is not injured.
BREEDING RULES
• breeding season
The breeding season begins in late winter and ends during early spring, lasting a total of one month.
• no graphic content
Graphic breeding is not allowed on this site. It violates Proboards Terms of Service. During the breeding part of a post, please black out before you get to the graphic parts. If you want to RP the graphic part, do it off-site.
• birth takes place 15 days after breeding
A female will give birth 15 real-life days after breeding. This is about one and a half months of in-game time. Seven real-life days after birth they can be roleplayed.
• please post in the pup announcement board
When breeding has occurred, please post an announcement using the provided forms in the pup announcement board so that a staff member can decide the litter.
• pup stats are determined by a roll of dice
The main admin will determine the number of pups and each pup's stats through a roll of dice.
SEASONS
• There are four seasons in the year, with each one being two real-time months long.
THE CREATURE ACCOUNT
• There is a staff-run account that acts as the many different creatures that can be found in Everfrost. Occasionally, a staff member may jump into a thread with that account. They will play one of the many animals that can be found on Everfrost; usually a larger animal, such as deer or a bear. This is to add some realism and excitement into the game.
