| [atrb=background,http://i197.photobucket.com/albums/aa35/Sigath/maladytableforanyumid.png] i'm waiting for the gavel handing me the sentence downThe day was warm, the skies clear. Spring was slowly turning into summer. The lake was bordered by hundreds upon hundreds of green trees. The sun struggled to shine through all of the green foliage, and a green light was cast over the forest floor along with a myriad of shadows. Despite the heat, it was cool beneath the trees. As if to defy the heat of the summer, a cool breeze swept through the trees from the direction of the lake, disturbing the leaves overhead.
Each paw step took him farther and farther through the forest on what seemed like a never ending trail that led to no where. But there was no trail. There were no markers to follow in the forest. But he continued to lope through the trees at a comfortable pace as if he knew exactly where he was going, though he had never been here before. His bright golden eyes searched the almost many shadows beneath the trees and then looked farther ahead, searching for some form of life or movement. The humid spring air dulled his senses. He hated the thickness of the air during spring, when rain came more often to give life to the land. Usually the entire forest was alive with scents, but the humidity and warmth dulled those scents and replaced them with a hot, itchy smell that he struggled to describe. Warmth. It smelled horrid. But the forest was a lovely place, for it was cooler beneath the cover of the trees than it was out in the open. He had always loved the forest.
Wandering here was just as enjoyable as living here would have been. Though he was nothing more than a vagabond at the best of times, he always imagined himself settling down in a pack that had a forest. Of course, he would need to find a female to settle down with. And yet, beneath this love of the forest and his desire to find a female and settle down, there was a darkness seething within his soul. He was the one who would bring chaos to the forest, as well as anywhere else that he went. And he would have what he wanted, no matter what the cost. Deciding what he wanted was the difficult part of the equation. At the moment he was a loner with no power and no means of taking what he wanted. That would all change with time, of course, but his heart longed to have power in his grasp again.
It wasn’t long before he spotted an open area in the trees ahead. Mistakenly taking it for a clearing, he allowed his paws to move faster, increasing the speed of his movement to a lope. Even though he loved the forest, he was eager to be out in the open, away from the she shadows for a little while. His lope quickly increased to slow run before he passed the last few trees and burst out into the open. However, being unfamiliar with the area, he wasn’t aware that this particular forest made it’s home beside the edge of a cliff, as well as a lake, and he found himself rushing straight for that edge. Acting quickly to save his life he dug his claws into the earth and pulled back, falling into a sitting position as he skidded toward the edge, unable to do anymore to stop. He closed his eyes, preparing to feel the rush of air and the horrible sensation of falling as he plunged over the cliff face. But as he slowed, still touching the ground, it felt like he would never plunge over the edge. And then he stopped moving all together.
Opening his eyes he found that he was only inches from falling over the cliff. Relief flowed through him when he realized that he wasn’t going to die and he exhaled loudly, allowing his body to completely relax for a moment. His dark brown fur was coated with dust now and his black legs were now a dark tan. His black face was spattered with dirt that had flown around him as he skidded to a stop. Standing up, he shook his fur, trying to free it as best as he could from the filth that now covered it. Only half achieving his goal, he stopped trying and then slowly backed away from the edge of the cliff. Only when he was a comfortable distance away did he stop and sit down, allowing his nerves to try and calm themselves a little more before he continued on his journey to nowhere.
When he finally felt that his nerves were calm enough that he could travel on safely he lifted his head and taste the air, opening his jaws to receive more scents than his nose alone would allow in. The same scent of heat and the dulled scents of the forest behind him were there, along with the thick, suffocating scent of the dust that he had stirred in his slide. As he slowly sifted through each scent he recognized another familiar scent that caught his attention more than any other scent had yet. It was the distinct smell of rabbit, a scent that he had grown very familiar with in his wanderings as a loner. Within his golden eyes sparked a dull interest and he stood up on his feet slowly, still tasting the air every few moments. He had a good idea of where this scent was coming from; to his left, along the cliff, some ways down yet. There were trees blocking his view, so his prey remained invisible. Either way, it was time for him to fill his stomach, though he was growing tired of the small rodents.
He turned and slipped back into the trees, to make sure that he had a little cover as he headed towards his new quarry. By the scent he knew that the rabbit was just beyond a thick stand of trees just ahead of him. Once he was passed those trees he would be able to see and judge his attack more accurately. His paws touched the ground as softly as possible, and he tuned into a ghost as he expertly moved from shadow to shadow. Since the breeze was blowing in his direction it was carrying the rabbit’s scent to him, not the other way around. That would make his hunt easier, especially since he was unable to see the scene for the time being.
The scent was growing stronger and he knew that he was coming closer and closer to the rabbit. It wouldn’t be long before he would be able to see it through the trees. And, just as he was thinking that, he saw movement in the peripheral part of his right eye, causing him to stop. The sudden movement, a knee-jerk reaction to what he had seen, nearly caused him to lose his balance and go tumbling forward onto his face, but he caught himself before he committed such a disgrace so near to other wolves. His eyes were temporarily overshadowed with anger at himself. He was acting strange today; first the cliff, and then he just nearly tripping over himself. He was beginning to wonder if there was something wrong with him. Worst of all, he hadn’t seen any movement at all. It had been nothing more than a trick of the light.
He managed to recollect himself, despite his annoyance, and turned toward the wall of trees that still blocked his view. A quick glance told him that all was well, and he slipped into the trees, making his way through them. Just a little more than a minute later they began to thin out and he could finally see the plump rabbit nibbling on grass beneath the cover of some brush. Malady dropped into a crouch and began to move forward and inch at a time, keeping his eyes trained on the furry form that was just over two yards away. Slowly, he closed the gap between him and the prey. When there was just a yard between them, he came to a stop. The space was more than small enough for leaping. He would just have to remain silent before he made the final move to kill his meal.
His legs tensed, and he began to wait for the right moment to pounce. The rabbit moved slowly, but finally it’s back was to him and he saw his chance. Powerful muscles pushed him from the ground and then forward by three feet, so that he landed directly on top of his quarry. His claws scored a deep scratch along the side of the rabbit, but he did not deal a death blow. Crippled, the rabbit screamed in terror but did not run. It kicked at it’s assailant, but even if it escaped or fought off it’s attacker, the cuts were too deep and it would have died before long. Malady watched it for a few moments, meeting it’s terror stricken eyes with his own dark ones. And then he lowered his head and dealt a swift blow of death to the suffering creature. Not because he felt sorry for it, but because his stomach was growling hungrily and he didn’t feel like torture at the moment.
And now, to satisfy the annoying rumbling of his stomach, all he had to do was eat his fresh kill…
ooc// this is a slightly recycled post. I hope you don’t mind. It was a good one when it was written, and it was never really replied to after I posted it. I had to change the season in the post, and some of the scenery, and the rabbit hunt wasn't in here before. But, yeah.

It was a lovely day, the sun trying frantically to seep through all the thick foliage which surrounded her. Eclipse was rather thankful for the forest today, it provided a lot of shade, so the sun wasn't beating directly upon her thick coat, making it unbearable hot. Tongue lolled out of the side of her open mouth as she loped through the maze of trees. This was one of the rare times Eclipse felt somewhat carefree and at ease. There hadn't been any underlying scents of wolves for miles, and she had no other reasons to have her guard up at the moment. She had a full stomach, having caught a small doe earlier that day. The fur on her back quivered as a small gust of wind grabbed at her body. Golden eyes scanned the forest ahead of her, she saw no movements besides the rustling leaves and a squirrel taking flight up at tree. Her progress decreased for a moment, letting her strides come to a stop at the base of rather large tree. Where was she planning on going? Was this another day for meaningless wandering? She supposed it was, they all were, but what she really wanted was a nice long drink.
She tilted her head to one side, wondering where she might be able to find some water around here. This had been the first time she'd ventured this far into these woods. She had no idea where she should go. Ears flicked around atop her skull, trying to catch any sound of moving water. She heard something way off to her left that sounded promising, so she decided she might as well go investigate. Legs pushed off in a leisurely lope once more, tongue still hanging from her mouth. She hoped she really had heard water, but it was hard to say for certain. Her throat was burning, she hadn't come across any water all day, and the heat was not helping the matter at all. She allowed her speed to increase to a slow run, the copper tint in her pelt lighting up vibrantly as she ran into an open pocket between the trees.
She made note of the trees beginning to thin, and her run slowed to a walk once more. Sides heaved slightly with every step she took, stamina had never been a strong point for her. Damp nostrils flared, and the mingled smell of earth, water and wolf came to her. She hesitated for a second, her guard rising instinctively. She needed the water, but she really didn't want to come face to face with another canine. She snorted quietly to herself, tongue retreating to the inside of her mouth before she decided to continue forward. She needed a drink, that was the only reason she kept moving. To her surprise, when she emerged from the trees, she caught sight on no other wolves. Bright golden eyes flicked around her, there was absolutely no movement, the unknown wolf must have just taken off before her entrance. Not that that bothered her in the least. What did bother her, was that she was way the hell up on a cliff, and there was no way she could reach the water. She walked to the ledge, peering down over it with a look of disgust. There it was, the cool water mocking her.
She shook her head in annoyance. This had been a waste of time, now she could potentially run into another wolf before she made it back out of these woods. Eyes narrowed, her breathing beginning to regulate after her run. She moved away from the cliff, noticing a series of shallow lines etched into the dirt near it's edge. She sniffed at these gingerly, and a strong smell of wolf ran through her nose. She guessed this wolf hadn't been paying too much attention to where they were going. She snorted again, raising her head from the ground to examine the forest. Which was should she go now? Tongue protruded from her muzzle once more, throat dry and itching. She decided quickly, not wanting to mingle in the direct sunlight much longer. Upon entering the shade of the forest once more, Eclipse decided she might as well try going after this other wolf. She didn't have to be friendly to ask how to find her way to the lake. Muscles tensed slightly at the thought of asking another wolf directions, it seemed foreign to her. Maybe she wouldn't. She would try to find it on her own. It couldn't be that hard, after all, she knew the direction it was in, now she only had to find a way to the bottom.
She hadn't been walking long when a movement in her peripheral vision caught her attention. Head whipped to the side, noting the dark earthy toned pelt which was crouched a few feet away from her. She stopped suddenly, unsure of whether she should proceed. Nostrils flared again, a mixture of smells coming to her, the strongest being male wolf and rabbit. So, he was hunting. Eclipse's upper lip quivered, maybe she should be a nuisance and run after this male's prey. Sure, she was quite full, and she really wasn't a huge fan of rabbit, but she enjoyed disputes over food. Muscles tensed, eyes narrowing in on the small bundle of moving fur which was the rabbit. She calculated her odds of getting to the rabbit before the male, and concluded that they were not good. He was at least fifteen feet in front of her, and was obviously about to spring at the way his muscles were coiled.
Sure enough, she was right. Just as the thought crossed her mind, the wolf's body was thrown through the gap between himself and his prey. He landed precisely on top of his meal, and Eclipse couldn't help but watch the sick display playing out in front of her eyes. She watched as the male delivered the death blow, and then decided she might as well be on her way. There was no real point on starting a fight over a stupid little rabbit. She was already full, and a fight over a rabbit would only make her look pathetic, like she couldn't catch her own small game. She snorted at the thought, tearing her gaze away from the scene before her. She began forward, padded foot instantly landing on a dry twig, creating a rather large unwanted crack that would surely notify the male of her presence. Her muscles tensed, eyes glaring at the stupid twig her foot rested on top of. It seemed she wouldn't be getting off as easy as she wanted too now.
ooc: That's fine, I don't mind at all :]

| [atrb=background,http://i197.photobucket.com/albums/aa35/Sigath/maladytableforanyumid.png] i'm waiting for the gavel handing me the sentence downMalady was not one to draw out the death of his prey. With the swift death blow dealt, he began to eat his meal, welcoming the nourishment that it would bring. He took his first slow bite, chewing it slowly to savor the taste and make the meal last longer. A loner was always hungry, since he was not able to hunt larger game as the pack wolves were. He was about to take a second bite, as he swallowed the first, when he heard a sound that made him snap his head up quite suddenly. The wind was not in his favor and he couldn’t smell what or who had made the sound, which he easily recognized to be the snapping of a twig, and not too far away at that. His dark eyes searched the surrounding forest, wary and curious at the same time. Who was watching him?
Malady stood up, for he had laid down in order to eat the rabbit, and he took in a deep breath of air. The stranger was close enough that he caught the lightest hint of scent in the air. The scent was unfamiliar, but female and not far from his kill site. A female. That would be interesting. He would have to be courteous, of course. While he believed himself to be dominant over all, he was willing to show females some respect – to a point.
A grin spread across his muzzle and he turned, the dark fur of his pelt shaking a little as he moved. He wasn’t as clean as he liked to be, but hunting and maintaining a life as a loner did not help with keeping oneself clean. He shrugged the notion off and turned his head to where he was certain the female was. It was dark beneath the threes, though they were not too thick, and he could see now that she was visible in the shadows. He had simply been unable to see her from where he had been sitting before. She appeared to be fairly large for a female, perhaps even close to his size. If she was as strong as she looked, he really didn’t want to fight her. If it were an easy fight, then sure. But at the moment he was quite content to talk. Or whatever it was that wolves did when they ran into each other like this.
Her colors were nice enough. Ranging from grey, white, black and brown, she was unique enough, though really just a typical gray wolf. Her eyes were more golden and stood out against the darker fur. He smiled at her in an almost sarcastic way, playing the gentleman of sorts. “Why hello there,” he called out. “Would you care to join me?,” he asked, stepping aside and motioning towards the kill that he had made. He would share, if she wanted some of it. But he would still claim most of it for himself.
Malady held his head rather higher. Higher, perhaps, that most loners had a right to carry their head. But he’d had positions of power before, and it was left over from that time. Sometimes it was hard for a leader to lose that posture that came with a position of power, as it was for Malady. He claimed no dominance at the moment, though in his head he believed himself to be better than her. He was simply falling into a posture that was normal to him

Well damn, the stupid dry weather had exposed her. Golden eyes remained fixed rather irritably upon the broken twig which still rested under her paw. Nature could really get in her way sometimes. It had this annoying way of exposing her when she'd rather hide, and hiding her when she'd rather be noticed. Her body was rigid for a moment after the dry crack, a line of profanity racing through her head as she forced her muscles to relax. The worst thing that could come from her exposure was a quarrel between herself and the other wolf, and it wasn't like that was something out of the ordinary. Male or not, Eclipse was confident that she could stand her own against him. She was nearly even in size, so she didn't see any immediate reason to fret. She tore her gaze away from the twig on the ground, bringing it to rest upon the male who's attention had been drawn toward her, of course. She released a gust of carbon from her nostrils, her bushy copper-tinted tail stiffly in line with her body.
The male's coat was unique, and blended in neatly with the shadows cast by the trees. She noted too that his eyes were of a similar hue to her own. Yellowy/golden. She allowed her paws to start tracing across the ground once more, bringing her a few steps closer to the brute. Damp nostrils flared, taking in the scent of the male. She didn't recognize it, as she expected, but she noted well that it wasn't marked with any other canine's scent, which meant he didn't belong to a pack. Eclipse took some comfort in this fact, but either way it didn't affect her too much. Ears perked up atop her skull at the sound of the male's voice, flickering from side to side slightly to pick up every different note. She watched his muzzle draw into an almost sarcastic smile and she felt her own upper lip begin to twitch. She didn't appreciate being mocked or looked down upon, and she felt like this wolf was a joker of sorts. She held her ground, biting her tongue before she dared open her mouth and speak to this wolf. He had offered her a meal. Why? Did he think she was incapable of bringing down her own rabbit? Hackles rose momentarily in disgust, but she banished the thought quickly. Maybe he was just being polite and meant no disrespect by the offer. She had to snort at that, he didn't look like the most gentlemanly wolf.
Her gaze flicked from the male to his meal and back again, still processing her options. She could accept the offer, and scoff down the rabbit, just to be a nuisance. But what would be the point? She had already eaten, she would get no satisfaction out of that meal besides getting on the other wolf's nerves. She shrugged it off, deciding she'd hold off on her petty games for the time being. "No, thanks. I've already had my meal for the day." She skipped the formality and decided to be more direct. She didn't need to deal with the male's sarcastic act. Golden eyes traced over the wolf's body, noting the confident posture in which he held his head. He had no right to carry himself so proudly. He was a loner.
A mild flash of annoyance ran across her face, feeling the need to straighten her own posture to match his. She continued to hold her tail in line with her body, although she had a strong urge to lift it high and start flagging the male. She could try to claim dominance over the brute, she had no problems fighting him for it, but she decided to give him the benefit of the doubt for the time being. Maybe he just had some confidence like herself, and was always carrying himself in such a way. Eclipse had been born into a position of leadership, but she had never carried herself with the dignity of one. It was something she had never felt right doing. She found herself wondering if this wolf had also been born as an heir to a pack. Maybe he had abandoned one too.
ooc: I'm sorry this took so long, I work every evening throughout the week, so I've been super tied up. Hopefully now that school's ending I can be a little more active. :]

| [atrb=background,http://i197.photobucket.com/albums/aa35/Sigath/maladytableforanyumid.png] this is the scent of dead skin on a linoleum floor this is the scent of quarantine wings in a hospitalMALADY never once relaxed his posture, though his muscles weren’t tensed for an attack. He watched as she came closer, taking in her appearance and committing it to memory. At the same time, his nostrils twitched slightly as he took in her scent, storing that with the memory of her appearance. He wouldn’t forget her for a long time, now, though if much time passed between now and the next time they met it might be difficult to recall the memory.
Watching her, he wondered what was going through her head right now. He knew himself to be an oddity among loners. His way of dealing with others, his attitude, and his posture always stood out. But every loner had their own quirks. These were just some of his, and he had good enough reasons for them. He had a mean streak at times, and he was clever and manipulative. But sometimes he was just normal. He didn’t usually go out of his way to cause pain and suffering when he hunted, and he didn’t go around killing wolves just for the hell of it. He might go out of his way to cause a fight just for the sake of fighting, but that was the limit for him most of the time. Of course, when he got angry, everything changed.
“Suit yourself,” he said, noticing the annoyance on her face. Whatever caused that, he wish he knew and he would keep trying to annoy her. Unfortunately, it could have been several things, his posture and “act” included. Though he really wasn’t acting. There was genuine politeness there. It was just masked by the sarcasm.
Malady turned away from her and slowly laid back down with his kill in front of him. Placing his paws on top of the carcass to keep it pinned to the ground, he began to slowly tear off mid-sized bites to chew on. He ate slowly, refusing to lower himself like other “evil” wolves and rip into it because of bloodlust. That wasn’t his style unless he was in a particularly bad or violent mood. He kept one ear turned in the female’s direction, not wanting to lose track of her while he was eating.
After he had taken several bites, he lifted his head and turned to look at her, a question in his eyes along with the sarcasm and confidence. “Is there a reason why you were watching me, by the way?” he asked casually, as if the answer didn’t matter at all when it really did. What she said here could cause a change in his attitude. He could remain somewhat pleasant, as he was now, or he could become irritated, in which case he might ask her to leave. It was up to her. In his eyes there was a warning. They showed that he was waiting for an answer and would take that answer very seriously. While he could be laid back, as he was now, he didn’t take well to being spied upon.
ooc// sorry it's not really all that long. and sorry for the wait xDD don't worry about taking a while. i have plenty to do while I wait.

Although she tried to keep her muscles relaxed, she couldn't help but stay fractionally on edge. All unknown creatures had a fine habit of keep her on her toes. Golden eyes flicked over the male's form again, still slightly annoyed by his confident posture, but she let the emotion fall from her multi-coloured face. She didn't need to broadcast her feelings to this wolf, or anyone else, for that matter. She exhaled softly, casting her gaze downwards for a moment. She wanted to calm herself down for once, she didn't always want to be so edgy and standoffish around everyone she didn't know. But she knew that if she wasn't weary of everyone, she would get herself hurt, or something of equal measures. She sneered slightly to herself, letting her attention snap back to the male as she heard him take a breath to answer her. Ears swerved forward, catching his simple response. She shook her head slightly, not offering an answer to this comment. As the brute turned around, Eclipse felt herself subconsciously relax, she felt far less prosecuted with him looking away, she felt like she could simply disappear into the shadows once more, but she knew that wouldn't actually work. She'd already been spotted here, she couldn't exactly just evaporate like she'd never been there in the first place now.
Fore paw rummaged against the fallen foliage, ears flattening toward her skull as she tried to think of her next move. She could simply turn and walk away, but that might come across as a cowardly act, and she couldn't have that. She could stay here and face this other wolf, but what would she say, or do, for that matter? Her multi-hued pelt rippled in a faint frustration, not being able to choose a conclusion. In the next second, it didn't seem like she'd need to make a decision, the dark coloured male had made one for her. Ears snapped forward, catching his voice once more. Why had she been watching him? She barked a short, humourless laugh. She hadn't exactly been watching him, she had merely been passing through, and laid eyes on him on her way. She walked forward a few paces, golden eyes locked with his own as he turned to face her. She felt her confidence growing, and decided she would play at this little male's game, she could merely tell him that she had just been in search of a drink, and had had no intention of ever speaking with him, but with her thirst now forgotten, she decided she'd stick around and see if she could push some buttons.
"Well, I just couldn't help myself, you see, you're just so charismatic, I couldn't not stop and stare at you." Her tone was clearly sarcastic, but it held no real tone of rudeness along with it. She was merely teasing, wanting to push the wolf's buttons, see how far she could get with it. She stopped just short of the male, who had laid down to finish his meal. Damp nostrils flared again, taking in his scent mingled with the scent of the rabbit's fresh blood. She cringed inwardly, tilting her head to the side slightly, not wanting to inhale that intoxicating aroma more than she had too, for fear her hunger may be spiked again. Copper tinged tail rested in line with the rest of her body, gaze still resting upon the male. She decided she may as well try to get his name, if he had any sort of genuine friendliness in there, he would give it to her, and maybe her slightly negative perspective of him could take on a new shape. Unless, she had offended him greatly with what she had said before. She hoped not, she hoped he would catch onto her childish taunting, and take no offence to it. She merely meant to try his nerves, see how much he could take. "So, Sir, what might I call you by? Or would you prefer me to continue calling you Sir?" She asked in an nonchalant tone, settling her haunches against the foliage, she wrapped her copper tinted tail around the base of her body habitually, golden eyes still firmly on the male's body before her.
ooc: Sorry for the crappy post, my muse for Eclipse has been iffy lately.

| [atrb=background,http://i197.photobucket.com/albums/aa35/Sigath/maladytableforanyumid.png] this is the scent of dead skin on a linoleum floor this is the scent of quarantine wings in a hospitalAs he waited for her to answer, he turned back to his meal and finished off most of whatever was edible It had been enough for him, and he didn’t feel the need to pick the bones dry. Instead, he pushed what was left of the carcass into the foliage where he could no longer see it. The scavengers could finish the few bits that still clung to the bones. There was no longer a need for him to lay down any more, then, and he pushed his front end up with his paws, until he was sitting and looking at her once more. Just in time. It seemed that she was about to answer his question. Content with a full belly and interested in what she had to say, he relaxed some more and pricked his ears forward, watching her with steady, cool eyes. He wasn’t surprised to hear the sarcasm in her voice, though he wished that she would have given him a straight answer, even though he doubted that she’d had any ill intention. The warning in his eyes grew lighter and then disappeared entirely now that his question was answered. It wasn’t a satisfying answer, but he was willing to play her little game. Games were fun, and he was good at these kind of games. Sarcasm was much like a second language, and he had learned it in his dealings with other loners.
”I am sure that one who knows me so well, such as yourself, knows just how charismatic I am,“ he said, sarcasm lacing his voice. ”Though, I am quite handsome to look at, aren’t I?“ There wasn’t a hint of seriousness in his voice. Only mock self-importance. Did he think himself handsome? Not particularly so. In fact, he had no real opinion on the matter, except that he was certain he wasn’t hideous. Smirking, he waited for her response, hoping that he was pushing some kind of button and testing her patience or her nerves. As if to prove a point, he settled himself into a posture that was still more dominant than a lone wolf’s posture should have been. He even raised his head a little more, just because he felt good after his meal and was enjoying the company of the female.
”Well now,” he began, in response to her question. ”’Sir’ does have a nice ring to it. But ‘Your Highness’ is really more suitable, don’t you think?“ Inside, he hated the idea that anyone would ever call him ‘Your Highness’. He merely hoped that acting as if he thought himself highly important would annoy her. He did think he was important, yes, but not out here in the wilderness. He had always had a sense of self-importance, and he did occasionally force that onto others when he tried to take control of things and assert himself. But out here it was really every wolf for himself, and he knew that. If he were in a pack, then things would be very different.
”Really, though,“ he said, taking on a more serious tone a few moments after he had answered her question. ”You could just call me by my name. Malady.“ As if he had lost all interest in the game, he yawned, keeping one eye open to watch her while closing the other. When he finished, he stared straight at her once more. ”And do you have a name? Or would you like it if I called you ‘My Lady’ or something fancy like that?“

Gaze never dropped from the male as he finished up his rather spry meal. She watched him nose away the mostly picked apart carcass and winced internally. It wasn't as if she didn't have feelings, even if she chose to ignore them for the most part, she couldn't help but feel a small amount of remorse for the rabbit's death. But, that was life, it was just how things had to be. With the rabbit now forgotten, Eclipse watched as the other wolf turned his attention on her. She watched his reaction to her words, golden eyes trying to analyze the emotions on his face. She couldn't really tell, but she thought that he could have been slightly annoyed with her choice of answer. So, had she succeeded at pushing some buttons, then? Head cocked to one side slightly, gaze still lingering on the male's face. As his reply hit her ears, she couldn't help but allow a ghostly smile play at her muzzle. So, this male knew the language of sarcasm too, and it seemed like he played these petty little games often, which didn't really come as a huge surprise to her.
Her eyes widened slightly, as if she were arching her eyebrows, were she to have any. She obviously would have no clue if this wolf was charismatic or not, she'd never even laid eyes on him before, and he seemed rather accustomed with that fact. His second sentence caught her slightly off guard and she barked a faintly amused laugh. Did he think himself to be handsome? She let her gaze rake over his uniquely coloured body and his slightly disheveled pelt, then come to rest upon his face again. She could tell by his expression on his face and in his voice that he wasn't being the slightest bit serious, merely trying to nag at her. She snorted softly, muzzle still covered with a sarcastic grin. "The handsomest I've laid eyes upon yet, of course." She answered with a slightly sarcastic tone in her voice. She wasn't intending to be rude, she didn't think the brute was ugly, she was merely playing along with the cards he was unfolding for her. She had actually acquired a weird liking for the different colours in his coat, they were unique to her and she envied them.
She watched the posture in which he sat himself now, a vague annoyance still brewing in the back of her head. He was a lone wolf! He had no right to be so overconfident, so arrogant in his stature. She shook her head, realizing that this was probably just another test to push at her own buttons. She was starting to realize that the male was probably going to be just as good at this game as she was, every loner acquired this sort of rueful humour after being alone for so long. She stiffened slightly, raising her own head and straightening out her back, she let her bushy copper tinged tail weave out behind her, twitching in the fallen debris behind her. If he were going to hold himself proud, she would follow this display as well. Ears swivelled back toward the male as he spoke again, this time to address himself. Your Highness? Oh, how that name did suit him. She snorted again, a small sound smeared with humourless laughter. "I suppose I could call you your highness, but don't you think that is just a touch too important?" She left an easy smile on her face, clearing showing the male that she was joking and had no ill intentions if he mistook the tone of her voice. It had been a while since Eclipse had had any sort of civil interactions with another wolf, and she was still rusty on how to go about it.
When he finally gave her his real name, she nodded slowly. Malady. That was a different name, and it suited him, she decided. "Well, Malady, you can call me Eclipse, even though 'My Lady' does seem like a very fitting title." She answered lightly, a smirk resting on her features. She caught his yawn and felt her own wanting to break through, although she held it back. Was he boring of this petty little game? It really did seem to be getting them nowhere, with both of them retaliating at each other like this, no buttons were really going to get pushed, it would just be a never ending game of petty jabs at one another. Eclipse sighed lightly, letting her gaze drop to the earth's floor. She had forgotten the thirst burning at the back of her throat after her encounter with the male, but she could feel the dryness of her mouth and coarseness of her tongue beginning to creep back into existence. She looked back up at the wolf, ears rotating atop her skull. "Would you happen to know how to get down to the water?" She asked, the sarcastic and mocking tones completely removed from her voice. "I was trying to find a way down there before I ran into you." She continued, finally giving him a real reason as to why she had come across him.

this is the scent of dead skin on a linoleum floor this is the scent of quarantine wings in a hospitalMalady offered her a light, sarcastic smile. He noticed her eyes looking him over again, and connected it with his comment. Some had called him handsome before. Did he care? Not all that much, really. Perhaps it could be an advantage in some situations. He’d keep that in mind later on. A small, insignificant through flashed through his mind for a few short moments. Did Laya think he was handsome? She never said. In fact, he wasn’t even sure what she thought of him at all, despite his own feelings for her. Oh well. As said before, it was insignificant, and the thought was banished to the back of his mind, where it could sit and fester with the rest of those kind of thoughts. Here and now he was with Eclipse, and she was entertaining him.
“You flatter me,” he said, mockingly accepting her fake compliment. “You’re not too bad to look at yourself, you know.” He was part serious, but mostly sarcastic. Sure, she wasn’t ugly. But he didn’t really care about what she looked like. There was a part of him that thought his coat was better than hers, though a small part, much like the thought about Laya that he had shoved to the back of his mind. His smile never faded, though, and it was possible to see the enjoyment in his eyes. Sure, they were playing with sarcasm, but these games gave him something interesting to do and he liked it. A life of solitude really wasn’t for Malady. He was a social creature, which was why he had spent plenty of time in packs. He’d led them, too, thought it wasn’t much of a challenge for him. He was a born leader, or so he believed himself to be.
Watching as she changed her posture to match his, he grinned. So, his posture did have an effect on her, and she wasn’t one to take dominance from someone without a response. There was triumph in his eyes; he had pushed the right buttons, it seemed. Knowing that, he didn’t relax his posture. But he did straighten himself a little more, added an extra hint of regal-ness (or so he thought) to his appearance, and perhaps making himself another inch or two taller in the process.
“Well, it wasn’t too important at one time,” he answered sarcastically, though he was serious. She wouldn’t be able to tell that, though. Even his smile was still sarcastic. “Eclipse. What a lovely name. But what if I would rather call you “My Lady” instead?” He smiled sweetly at her now, but there was still sarcasm flashing in his eyes. What would she say to that? He really didn’t care what he was to call her, but he would call her Eclipse if she wanted him to. It was like him to make things more difficult than they needed to be.
“Well of course I know the way down,” he said, as if it were silly of her to even ask. While it was sarcasm, you could hardly tell it from his voice. He sounded serious and slightly offended now, though he was only messing with her. “I got up here, didn’t I?” But of it, he said no more. He did not even offer to tell her how to get down. Instead, he would wait for her to ask him before offering the information. It wasn’t difficult. There was a well-worn game trail that led down to the water from up on top of the cliff. Most likely used by deer, and occasionally other animals, such as wolves like him. He looked at her expectantly, as if waiting for her to ask him to divulge the information. Inside he was smiling sarcastically again.

She stood abruptly, suddenly feeling antsy to be moving toward the refreshing liquid which her throat was burning so steadily for. As she stood, she stretched her body out, first bending the front of her body toward the ground, spreading her fore legs ahead of herself, then pulling herself forward and stretching her hind legs. Gaze broke from the male momentarily as she regained a somewhat straight posture, making sure she kept her head held high, and her tail in a completely stiff line with the rest of her body. She focused her attention back on the male as she heard his sarcastic tone enter her ears once more. She flattered him? She snorted again, obviously those words were completely false, not a true ring to them at all. She waited patiently for the next words which were leaving his mouth, and if she could have cocked one single eyebrow at that moment, she would have done so. Was he complimenting her? Even if it were only half truthfully? She couldn't control herself, she let a stiff, slightly humoured laugh roll off her tongue.
"Oh, don't you just have a way with words." She muttered sarcastically, but not without the hint of a smile still laid upon her muzzle. She studied his features for a moment, catching onto the slightly triumphant look which crossed his features. Had he noticed that he'd maybe pressed a few buttons with the whole posture and dominance play? Obviously he'd caught onto that fact, because she caught him straightening out his posture even more, his head held high in a sickening display of pleasure. Golden eyes slanted the tiniest amount for a moment, her bushy copper tinged tail twitching as she fought to control it from assuming it's highest position possible. She wasn't afraid to push her luck, this male didn't have much of an advantage on her physically, she was still quite confident that she could hold her own, but they were merely playing a petty game of pushing buttons, and that really didn't have to turn into any physical confrontation, did it? She thought not, so she dismissed to notion for the time being, but if this brute continued to play the dominance key, she would have to intervene.
Ears swivelled toward the male again at his next words, and the smirk remained plastered across her face. She didn't catch onto his false play with the first sentence, so she merely ignored it, not thinking it was important enough to comment on at this point. But she did choose to answer his question in reference to her title. If he wanted to call her 'My Lady'? Well, I guess she wouldn't object to that, even though she found the title absolutely absurd, and extremely not fitting. But she knew he was only trying to make things difficult. "Well, if you really insist on calling me 'My Lady', then I guess I can't object." She answered easily, letting her shoulder blades roll. "But really, I'd rather if you just called me Eclipse, I think it's a little more fitting, don't you?" She sneered, she was quite obviously not your average lady, so she thought the title was definitely not a fitting one, and she was sure Malady must have noted that fact as well.
She nodded slowly as he confirmed that he knew the way down to the shore, although he made absolutely no attempt to move. And she eyed him skeptically, realizing that he was only trying to make their every movement more difficult than it had to be. She sighed lightly, shifting her weight. The back of her throat was burning, and that fact couldn't be ignored for much longer before she really started getting irritated. She was surprised that she had managed to repress the feeling for this long. "Well then, would you care to show me the way? Or would you rather just sit here and watch me suffer?" Her features were still adorned with a mild smirk, knowing exactly which option he would have chosen. Why would he not want to sit here and watch her sweat, get more and more antsy as the thirst boiling at the back of her throat grew more and more intense. She cocked her head slightly, golden eyes lingering on the male's own, her posture slumping slightly as she grew more and more anxious to move.
ooc: wow, my apologies for the extremely crappy post, my mind is elsewhere today. haha

| [atrb=background,http://i197.photobucket.com/albums/aa35/Sigath/maladytableforanyumid.png] this is the scent of dead skin on a linoleum floor this is the scent of quarantine wings in a hospitalMalady offered her a sarcastic smile, but didn’t answer her otherwise at first. The topic of looks and flattery was exhausted by now, and he chose to end it there. Besides, there were other things to talk about. And other things to focus on, as well, such as the effect that his air of dominance had on her. It was amusing. He liked watching as she adjusted her own posture to match his. It didn’t bother him at all. The only one that seemed to be bothered by posture was her. His head and tail could go higher, but he wasn’t going to push it right now, when they were just sitting there. If they happened to move elsewhere, then he would play with that a little more and see what her reaction would be. Perhaps he would get something more interesting out of her. Such as some sort of outburst. For now, however, he left his posture where it was, not relaxing it at all. While he wasn’t going to start anything, he wouldn’t mind if this little game went a step up and got physical. It would only make it more interesting.
“Well, if you really would rather be called Eclipse, I suppose I can do that,” he said, as if it were an inconvenience. The act was even complete with the lack of a smile on his face and a sigh. Of course, he didn’t care what he called her, assuming that he would even call her anything. Perhaps he would simply refer to her as ‘you’ or a pet name such as ‘dear’ or ‘love,’ as he often referred to females. When he actually bothered to address her rather than just talk to her, then he would decide what he might call her. ‘Dear’ certainly seemed fitting enough. Perhaps he would use that the next time he spoke to her.
Malady eyed her seriously while he considered the options that she had given him, almost as if he were examining her. His eyes were completely serious, as if he weren’t about to make things more difficult or make a sarcastic comment. With the same serious look on his face, he said, “Watching you suffer is very tempting,” without a hint of sarcasm in his voice. “However, I will be a gentleman and show you how to get down to the lake, if you wish.” With that, he straightened himself up and turned towards the path that he had taken to climb up from the lake. He looked at her one last time, gave her a quick, large smile, and then turned to head down the path. Once more, he played the dominance game again, and he walked away as though he were a king. He let his tail wave behind him, this time as high as it could go, and his head was just as high. He had the air of a king about him, too; an air of self-importance that no loner should have had. Whatever her reaction, he would have to wait to see it. He couldn’t see her when he had his back to her, heading down the trail.

Golden eyes lingered on the male's still sitting form and she shifted her weight about irritably. She was already standing, could he not tell that she was ready to go? Or was this still part of his little game? Or, should she say, her game? She had started it, hadn't she. She questioned that for a moment, then shrugged it off. Did she really care who started it? No. Bushy copper tinged tail weaved from side to side slowly, the back of her throat was still burning with thirst. It was a dreadful feeling, the dry, constant itch which was slowly creeping further up her throat. Her ears twitched once again as the male's voice rang out into the hot, humid air, and she felt her shoulder blades roll in their sockets. She caught onto the tone of inconvenience which coated his simple words, and rolled her eyes at him. If it were really that big of a problem to him, he wouldn't even have bothered asking her name, he would have simply used some common title to refer to her as; such as 'you' or 'girl'.
"Then Eclipse it is, I guess." She muttered tiredly, gaze moving from the male to the terrain behind him. "I'm terribly sorry if that's so much of an inconvenience to you." She muttered, these words smeared in sarcasm. She really wouldn't have cared less if making him call her by her actual name was inconveniencing him. She would have just laughed it on and used it to push his buttons. Although, she knew that he was only egging on the game at this point, so she couldn't use it to push his buttons. She noted again as he kept readjusting his posture, raising his head even after it didn't look like he could have raised it more. This frustrated her, and he clearly knew it. He was successfully pushing some buttons, and that frustrated her even more. Why could he push her buttons but she couldn't seem to find the right ones to push his? Her lips pressed together tightly for a minute, brows drawn together as she considered some further options. It was too hard to concentrate right then, with the thirst scratching at her throat.
She was about to settle her haunches against the ground again, figuring the brute wasn't about to move anytime soon, when the male spoke some more. There was not one hint of sarcasm in his voice, but Eclipse knew that he was still taunting her. It was just clearly absurd and sadistic if he actually wanted her to suffer. Gaze fell back on his as she listened somewhat impatiently for him to finish speaking, and she allowed another short, humourless laugh to escape her jaws. He was going to be a gentleman and show her the way, huh? She couldn't help but be slightly amused by that statement. Oh, what a gentleman he was. "Well, I'm glad that you're such a fine gentleman and you're not going to let me suffer." She retorted somewhat sarcastically as she watched the male finally stand and start off in the opposite direction. She was almost thankful for him finally giving in, and not making this overly difficult, until she saw how he started walking. Eclipse hesitated for a moment, staying rooted to her spot as she watched the male turn his back on her, head held as high as it could possibly go, with his tail waving behind him just as high. Golden eyes widened slightly in surprise, then instantly narrowed into irritated slits. Who did he think he was? She was unconsciously aware of the low rumble which had started deep within her throat as she watched the male strut off down a path, but she abruptly cut it off as she realized where the sound was coming from. There was no need of letting the male know how agitated she was with his little display.
She was able to relax her muscles enough to start moving after him, although the fur at her nape was slightly ruffed and raised in irritation. She was seriously considering their physical advantages now. But she could see no serious advantages or disadvantages for either wolf. They would be evenly matched, and he had turned his back to her, which meant she could very easily throw herself at him, clamping down on one of his hind legs or flank. Not a prime spot to attack, in her opinion, she would much rather an opportunity to lunge at his throat, but she supposed she would take what she got. She stared annoyed after the male, her paces quickening slightly as she picked up the lost space between them. She would have held her own head and tail high, but she saw no point at the moment, the male was in front of her, so he could not see her. The second she saw his gaze return to her form, though, she would be sure to carry herself with just as much undeserved dominance and pride as he did.
As she finally closed the distance between them, she let her strides slow to match his, her golden eyes still glinting with her clear annoyance. He was clearly winning with the game of pushing buttons, so Eclipse decided she would try a different approach. A small smirk tugged at the corners of her muzzle as she opened her mouth to address the male. "Malady," She started, saying the name in a hard tone, almost as if addressing a child who had been disobedient. "I think we're a little too overconfident there in the way we walk, I don't think you could have ever done something to deserve such a walk." The words sounded completely serious, although Eclipse obviously hadn't a clue about the male's history. She was clearly frustrated with the male beating her at this game, as she was going to aim in any direction that might get her some progress. Maybe prying out some of his past, and just being downright rude about it could gain her some points ahead, although she really had no clue. Maybe he wouldn't be affected by the words at all.
ooc: ugh, that was the worst post yet. I have no clue where my muse for Eclipse went, but I didn't want to keep you waiting for a reply anymore. So, Im really sorry for the garbage post, and take your time replying. Hopefully I'll be able to find my muse for her in the next few days.

| [atrb=background,http://i970.photobucket.com/albums/ae183/sigathkerr/Tables/maladytableforanyumid.png] this is the scent of dead skin on a linoleum floor this is the scent of quarantine wings in a hospitalMalady just grinned at everything she said, not responding to most of it. There wasn’t any point, after all. Not in his mind. Besides, he didn’t need to say anything else to play this little game. It seemed like his display of dominance was accomplishing that quite nicely, and he was perhaps even winning this game of button-pushing. He had found a button, and he was pushing it – pushing her and testing her. He knew that it was bothering her, so he kept doing it. As he walked his tail waved proudly in the air. He always carried a proud air about him, but he rarely, if ever, took it this far. This display was just a show to irritate her, and he was sure that he was winning this battle.
He turned, having realized that she wasn’t following him just yet, and looked at her pointedly. It was clear that she was upset, especially when he heard the low rumble in her chest. Ignoring that, he turned and kept walking in the same manner, determined to irritate her more than ever. Perhaps he could push her into action, if he kept this up long enough. It would be good once he dropped the act. It was uncomfortable. He rarely had held this posture even as an alpha. In fact, he liked to be more relaxed, though he always looked a little more proud than he should as a loner. It wasn’t his fault that he was better than everyone else around here!
Malady knew that she was upset with the way he was acting. It showed in his muscles and in his ears. He was tense, as if prepared to lunge or break out into a run at any given moment. His ears were pricked, one pointed forward and the other back, to listen to anything in front of him and any sound that she made that might give her away if she planned to attack. Perhaps he was trying to coax her into an attack with all of this. It was hard to say. A good fight was something that he would never turn down, and she looked as if she would be evenly matched for him. It would be a good, fair fight, and a challenge. He noted when it sounded as if she had finally begun to follow him, and he then pricked both of his ears backwards, to better hear her since he could not keep his eyes on her. Sooner or later he knew he would push her too far, and that was exactly what he was waiting for – as well as exactly what he wanted.
Perhaps if there was something that she could do to irritate him then she would feel a little less irritated by all of this. It was really too bad that there wasn’t much she could do to irritate him. He thought himself so much better than most, that anything they did to try and irritate him was just an itch that he could scratch if he needed to. His self confidence was strong and kept him safe. It was an asset and a curse, for his pride could get him into trouble. However, if she could find someway to attack his self importance – some way to insult him – then perhaps he would begin to lose this game, as she was. After all, he had elicited a response from her. And it seemed that response would continue to grow.
At last she caught up to him and met his pace, walking with him instead of following well behind him. That made him feel both safer and more vulnerable. It would take her less time to reach him in an attack, but he could hear her better now as well, so he would have more warning. It changed things, definitely. He would have to play it carefully now, and keep an eye out for an attack. Which he did, keeping her in the corner of his vision as well as listening for any change in her movements.
When she began to scold him – finally, something was happening! – he stopped to look at her. The expression on his face was far from irritated. He was clearly enjoying this, and her little outburst – if you could call it that – was just what he had wanted. He wasn’t angry or offended or irritated by what she said. He was amused, because this was just like what he had wanted from her. He grinned at her in a child-like manner, almost as if he were taunting her. And then his smile and his face changed, and he answered her, much less serious than she had been. It was the first time he had spoken in a while. ”Don’t be so sure about that, Missy,” he replied, almost as if he were a father speaking to his daughter. Essentially, treating her like a child, much as she had tried to do to him. He was answering her comment about not deserving his walk. As if to prove that she was wrong in some way, he turned again and quickly pushed his body into a swift lope down the path to the water – a path that he had traveled not too long before. It led away from the cliff at first, and then down the mountainside that the cliff was a part of, and then curved around again, down towards the lake. He didn’t know if she was following, but she could follow his scent if she wasn’t. He kept the same proud posture, gracefully loping along.

As she followed behind him, she noted with some twisted satisfaction that his posture, although still regal and much too proud for her liking, had also become slightly more tense, rigid, than it had been before. Her muzzle was now adorned with a small smirk, nose twitching as she stifled back her amusement. He was weary with her at his back, he was afraid that she might take the opportunity to do exactly what she had been considering - attacking him. Her smugness at this realization made her annoyance at his little act dim down a fraction, but she was still clearly annoyed with the game. She wasn't going to lose at this, not without a damn good fight to show for it, anyway. She considered his silence as they continued forward, with her now matching his strides beside him, was this supposed to be adding to her annoyance? Because she could have sworn she was grateful to have a little break from his sarcastic drawl.
But no, there it was, the answer to her miniature outburst. She scowled at his answer, brows drawn together and her lips twitching upward in a slight annoyance. Don't be so sure about that? And there he went, calling her by some generic pet name, as she assumed he would. So much for the stupid little little quarrel over her title. Golden eyes had slanted again slightly, watching the back of the male's head in pure annoyance as he turned from her and bounded off down the slope in some petty display. Even as he loped down the mountainside, he still managed to hold his same annoyingly regal posture, and Eclipse could have snapped his head off at that very moment had he not took off. Another low rumble brewing deep within her chest, Eclipse picked up her pace, multi-hued fur ruffling against her sides as the breeze slid past her.
The male had slipped out of her sight for the time being, but his scent was still fresh and nauseating as she loped own the incline after him. The path was pretty direct down to the water, and she didn't know why she couldn't find it on her own without his help, but it was too late now, she was stuck with him. She could just start to see glimpses of water breaking through dense foliage of the trees and she continued down the path, and the thirst in her throat was only intensifying much more rapidly now that she was moving quicker. Every breath she took was sending a searing, dry itch running back the entire length of her throat, it was almost enough to cause her eyes to water now. But she would reach the water soon, and be refreshed. And then maybe she would deal with the brute's annoying and sickening display of dominance.
As she rounded on the incline, she caught Malady's tail end in her view, she was almost caught up to him now. If she pushed herself just a little more, she could be on him again, but her throat was screaming at her not to do that. It didn't want to be pushed any further. She ignored it, gathering as much saliva as she could in her mouth before she pushed herself forward, her lope almost inclined to a run as she caught up with the male. Once she was in hearing range on the male again, she considered giving him some other retort to his vague words. Why shouldn't she be so sure? He sure as hell didn't seem to have any reason to be acting such a way, aside from getting on her nerves, of course. "And why shouldn't I be so sure?" She questioned rather harshly, her voice dry from the running and lack of water.
His answer here, this would probably be the one that could send her over the edge. Depending on the words he offered, Eclipse's mood could be completely pushed one way or another. She was on the fence right now, still level headed enough to be rational with her thinking, but she only needed a little more pushing, and her decision would be made for her. Golden eyes darted toward his form, still slanted slightly in annoyance, but mostly to shield them from the onslaught on wind. His posture was still too proud, and Eclipse rose her own tail as she ran up to his side, now slowing her stride to match his once again. She tried to lift her head as much as she could, as well, but her throat would only allow her to do so much before it would scream in protest at certain positions, causing it to scratch that much more.

| [atrb=background,http://i970.photobucket.com/albums/ae183/sigathkerr/Tables/maladytableforanyumid.png] this is the scent of dead skin on a linoleum floor this is the scent of quarantine wings in a hospitalMalady flicked one ear back when he realized that she was catching up to him. She must have fallen behind, then. He kept tabs on her footsteps, until she had reached him. Was he still annoying her? he wondered. After all, it wasn’t as if he had dropped the act. If he pushed her just a little further, then he would be completely satisfied and could move on. Part of this, however, was not an act. He did often carry his head a little higher than most loners. Not so high that he could be considered self-important. Just higher. When he was an alpha, then he had carried it at a self-importance height. As he was at the moment. And he was only doing this because he knew that it would annoy her.
He wasn’t surprised by her response. In fact, he had completely expected it. How predictable. This game of theirs was quickly getting boring. If he pushed her just a little further then he could simply drop the charade and be done. He just wanted something interesting to happen. So, in response to her question he flipped around in mid-step to face her without warning. He wasn’t sure if she had stopped following him or not, but he had still been loping around. The movement was sharp; if she was still moving then it was possible that she wouldn’t have time to stop until they were just a few inches apart. Or perhaps she would run into him. Either way, he didn’t care.
Malady feigned anger and irritation. The sarcasm disappeared and he appeared to be serious about the matter at hand. His eyes flamed and narrowed, all a part of the anger act. He curled a lip to show a few teeth. ”Because you” – he said her name as though he were referring to something disgusting – ”have no idea who I am and what I’ve done and been through.” The change in attitude would have startled anyone. He wouldn’t be surprised if the sudden change did the same to her, but for some reason he wasn’t sure that he would. Though, he knew that there was no reason for her to suspect this was simply an act, besides his previous behavior. There were no signs of the previous sarcasm he had been using before. He was all serious and all anger now. Would all of this be enough to provoke her into action? He had only partially dropped the regal posture to lower his head threateningly; his tail was still high.
He watched her then, waiting for her reaction and studying her movements to make sure he wasn’t off guard if she made a move towards him. Yes, he was trying hard to provoke her, but that didn’t mean he was a fool. She wasn’t going to surprise him with an attack. It would take more than that to get him.
